I want to plant a lavender hedge on my plot, the place I had in mind for it is near to my raspberries, rhubarb and strawberries. Does anyone know if lavender is a bad companion plant for these fruits?
hi jesse,
I hope not .... I recently broke up and moved a large-ish lavender.
I planted all the peices to make a hedge and planted rhubarb crowns in front of the hedge.
The soil in that area had been rejuvanted with muck and leaf mould a few week previously.
Its too early to tell how it will all take but it seems ok.

Google thinks you should be ok ...
Lavender makes a good companion for most plants, growing especially well with cabbages.

Hope this is of help.
Thanks, looks like it will be okay in the place I want it. Now just have to find lots of lavender plants or cuttings :D
As lavender is a Mediterranean plant my only concern would be the need for more moisture by the rhubarb!
Love companion planting am working on a chart, it's taking ages, but when it's done .... :)
It should be okay flowerlady, it will be on the other side of a path from the soft fruit and rhuarb, the ground where the lavender will be is on the higher side of a gentle slope as well so shouldn't suffer any run off when watering the fruit. Would love to see your chart when you're done. :)
Perhaps put your chart up on the Wiki flowerlady?
oooh yes, good idea :)
Ill keep working ;)
