B & Q are selling 4 x 65 litres bags of peat free compost (made from composted bark chippings) for £10.
For £15 you can buy the same quantity of general purpose compost from them.

We managed to buy 14 tonnes of Levingtons for £3.86 per 100 litres so that's now the 'cheap' compost on our site.
Also I noticed Focus have 240 litres of their own brand for £10.
I'll try B & Q thanks; I don't like using peat.
I find B&Q's peat-free compost to be fantastic stuff (tho sometimes it needs to sit and carry on composting a little more as it can be quite chunky initially.)
I find it even good for seed-sowing. And it's really really cheap. :D

Roy If the wife is up to it (or another female family member)send them in to the store tell them to smile nicely (like I do) at a young man and ask if they could put the compost in your car for them ;D ;D

I do that all the time when buying heavy things from DIY stores, pet suppliers or garden centres. The problem is that there is never a man in sight to unload it when I get home! :( It's strange how they disappear when help is needed. The same thing happens when I arrive home with supermarket groceries and need help with unpacking. I am sure they must watch out for my car coming and then hide!

Cheers Mac, ;) just hope now the offer is on at our local store. 8)
Ha ha Lorna, thats just what we do. Mind you doesnt solve the problem of getting it out ot the boot when I get home.
As Charlie was in a wheelchair for about five years I haven't had anyone at home to help. I just leave heavy things in boot hoping son or son-in-law will turn up. However young Lorna (only5ft1in) is as strong as a horse and pops round to unload for me.,before she lived next door I would struggle to get things out of the boot but have found Charlies sack barrow so useful to wheel stuff up to greenhouse.
Sorry Roy for hi-jack!! Would mention that we have had loads of compost from B & Q and have been very satisfied.
Lorna.
