Just been looking through my seeds, hope eveyone has a fantastic growing year!!!! Good luck all.
And you! Did a first sowing last night, tomatoes, peppers and chillis in paper pots. Probably too early but I'm getting impatient!
Gunnerbee,
Sorry to hijack - I've left a post on the swap shop thread and I've tried to PM you but your Inbox is full.
Can you get your outbox facility up and running again so you can PM me your details for the Mirabillis seeds I promised you?
Aquadulce Claudia planted in their loo roll nursery today ::) hope it's a taste of things to come. Happy growing all ;D
I don't have enough loorolls yet. :'( I've spent so long training everyone to put them in the recycling that they actually do it now. ::)
What does "This user is currently ignored" mean??
If you press the 'ignore' button, you don't see what's in their posts. You could have pressed it by accident; press it again to 'unignore'. It's in case there's some poster who makes your blood boil.
I've sowed nothing but a few seeds which need stratifying; the temperatures at the moment should do it nicely.
Ok, I will confess, my hands may be the itchiest of the lot! My warm shelf at work is already growing lettuce, tomatillo have germinated, and tomato seeds are just poking their shoots out (alicante). Am I too early to sow any aubergines?
Itching hands!? HA! I'm climbing the walls! All the seed packets are gloated over frequently, as usual there's a panic on to get the sprouts & BBeans started before missing the boat completely.
We have a house full of draughts and single glazing and the biggest window sill is 3" deep (victorians, eh?!) The garden's too small for a greenhouse and so I may just have to suprise the OH by presenting the kitchen surfaces covered in seed trays and face it out as a fait accomplis(sp?)
I'd be seed-traying today but for my slamming my foot against the sofa the other morning leaving me a black toe and a worrisome hobble. At least I get a day off work... ???
Curry - please can you let me know A) where you got your tomatillo seeds from & B) how they progress. I wanted to grow some last year but was too much of a newbie to know where to find the seeds!
We have all of our seeds now and made our allotment plan on what will go where. We are just waiting for the starting gun and then we are off, which will probably be next month. Know what you mean though about itchy hands, dying to get cracking. Heavy frost here today so spring a long way off yet. busy_lizzie
Greenhouse and propergators and grow light are all working hard Pelagoniums, lobellia, tomatoes, chillis, peas, 2nd lot of broadbeans and brugs are all in and im waiting for the pricking out stage now :)
Fingers got to itch in hospital ;D was all i was looking forward to and the thought of seeing the first seedling popping up was all i looked forward to :)
Having promised myself to wait until February before planting anything, I planted a few broad beans and some basil this weekend. So we’re under way!
I have very itchy hands and am also awaiting my propogator. When that arrives I am going to be ten times worse. ;D
Bennettsleg, I got the tomatillo seeds from the organic garden shop at HDRA ryton, not sure what it calls itself now, is it Garden Organic? I have been told that they are far easier to grow than tomatoes, the idea of salsa verde to accompany chicken and chillie tortillas is very appealing.
The code on the packet reads TOMX 9155.
I'm trying desparately not to sow anything apart from aubergines and melons yet. Last year I found sowing some tomatoes a month later than the others made no difference to cropping times. I'm using the dining room this year rather than heating the greenhouse so the later I can start the better.
Oh yes, desperately itchy but our greenhouse isn't heated and with the frosts we've been having, the temperature in there's got down to minus 8. I've got two potatoes in there which were sown in November in pots and one of those keeps getting its leaves blackened when I forget about the fleece!
Every year it's the same. Every window sill in the house gets covered with seedlings, mostly tomato seedlings. I seem to be going mad with tomatoes - I've got at least ten different varieties. The trouble is that they get leggy and pot bound and are desperate to get out when it's still frosty at night, so I'm trying very hard to wait.
I'll probably sow something when February starts, though. The beginning of Feb. always marks the beginning of the end of winter for me. :)
Soooo itchy - but I started too early last year so I'm determined to be patient this time round. I'm going to content myself with chitting potatoes and nursing things in the cold frame - I am; I am; I am ... ... ...
very very itchy hands i only got my lottie on sunday morning and to motervate my self in getting it ready iv already sown cauliflower leek tomato onion my kitchen is turning into a green house kids love it asking five times a minuet have thay grown yet (got to love there inthusasum) im drafting in as much help as i can to get it dugg in time but if a dont iv always got the plots i did at home last year ( lets hope my sowing works to motervate me lol)
can't wait :)
dug around 70sq m today, and about another 150 to do :P
Just discovered that I broke my toe on Sunday, so no prep work for me. :'(
Sitting around home all day, not able to potter or get ready without sowing trays too early. May start my leeks today if poss and to deflect gloom. Can also catch up on badly neglected reading .
Everything here is ready but frozen solid.. Packets of seeds lined up in order of sowing time. Plots turned over. Manure in place..
On your marks....
Even the pile of loo rolls is begining to grow. ;)
I'm like a kid on a day-trip ... "Are we there yet, are we there yet? Is it March yet, is it March yet? Can I eat my sandwiches yet mum?"
I'm thinking of sloping off at 4:00pm, i should get 3/4 hour in up the alottment. I've got about 4 more rows to dig then its all finished! Going to dig up my remaining parsnips aswell.
KEEF! Go NOW! I dare ya ;D
Hey don't tempt me!
;D ;D ;D
My equivalent of Trixies "are we nearly there yet?"...
"Can I sow my leeks yet? Can I? Oh please, can I?!!!!"
I'm having trouble getting motivated this year....be O.K.when I finally get going I suppose.
I did it! Ileft early! And when I got home my potatoes had arrived. So they're now all chitting away happily in the eggboxes. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If I could find my camera ..........
I scived off at 4pm ;D , finished my digging and dug up my parsnips..

I haven't dug my plots yet. A combination of ill health, soggy mucky soil or much too frozen to get a spade in! :'( :'(
i've got various bits in my seed tray with a lid, and couple of broad beans outside. I wasn';t planning on sowing aubergine till march, and then inside ... why so early?
:o Wow Keef :o Lovley soil, neat plot and lovley pictures, glad you scived off ;D
I've done about half my digging. That's well enough ahead; I can blitz it over half term then finish at Easter if I have to. The main thing is, I'm well ahead and can lay down acres of mulch as I go rather than struggling with the digging. Just for a change.

roflmao ...... i've just this minute said to "heem" that i've started to save them. not that he'd ever be likely to change the roll, but i can't take the chance as i need them all :P
and whilst looking for my Gardeners World chilli seeds last night, i thought i'd get out all the packets that said February or March on them, just so i can play with them while i'm waiting ;D
;D
I know what you mean Mrs KP...my seed packets are looking a bit dog-eared cos I keep getting them out and looking!!!
Soon the instructions will be unreadable, then where will I be?!!
;)
i planted up 9 (no more no less) sweet peas tonight, just a wee test really (large plastic bag to cover the bedroom floor. I'm not sure they meant the bedroom when they said Indoor on the pack) but i've found some Tomato Gartenperle seeds i can do tomorrow (and save some for later) ... it can't hurt can it :P
having looked at the amount of seeds i've got, there is no way i'm going to have room for them all so it won't matter if i lose a few lol
iv got quite a few things growing in my bedroom, kitchen amd the livingroom kids think its gr8 im trying these things out just so my girls stop asking when can a grow this if thay dont make it i can sow more the kids shouldnt notice i hope and if thay work ill get veg early (yes ) it just means thay will be a lot to move in and out for the harderning of proses and it will be a bit longer than normal at my house oh yes and the kids get mudy more than normal as i said to oh it wount hurt to try and grow them early will it im onlt a month r so early with some things
I've got seeds galore at the ready but as I'm very new to allotments (and growing things in general) there's lots to be done when the soil unfreezes.
Can't wait to get something on the go - probably shallots and even though I'm a bit late some garlic as well.

You could stick some broad beans in aswell, they can go in as soon as you can get on the soil.
It's going to happen this weekend!
Unless of course the ground's frozen again or it's pouring :'( :'(
Plan b is bung the broadies into toilet rolls indoors grawc, there's no stopping us ... ;D
im lending my dads rotervator this weekend so iv got to use it come rain r shine (i hpe for the sun please pray with me for this ) coz if he brings it down to the lottie for me and i dont do something he wont let me use it again (he says its to powerfull for me >:( im only 5 foot tall so id stuggle he says hes not seen me when im motervated lol i need to get mine dug soon r i wont do it and my girls will be very upset
I had a batch of seed arrive today from the Real Seed Catalogue. That's my main displacement activity at the moment; can't do too much in these temperatures. Not too many weeks to go; I'll soon be spending long summer days struggling to keep up with the weeds.
First plot is ready to go: second plot is untouched so far. Don't really intend to use it much this year though. Just clear weeds, put up fence adnd use it for overflow.
Got the first broad beans planted this afternoon, in the propagator, great feeling! just got about half the plot to finish digging properly..my poor back!
Broad beans, onions and Garlic growing on the allotment. Tomatoes, strawberries, seed onions and aubergine sown in my plastic greenhouse. So yes I had to do something. Got parnips to be sown later this month too but got to get sorting the allotment a bit more.
