Option 2: Singly in a row

Should have done this first!!
Is one method better than the other for earlies or lates ? Any thoughts?
flowerlady I plant mine in guttering and cover them to get an early start and to avoid slug damage at seedling stage. Then I plant them out in double rows. When I plant them out I sow more seeds directly but never seem to have much success with direct sowing, think it's the slugs that munch them.
I'm planting them in guttering as well mainly because of your suggestions in another post Jesse. Is it OK to put them on a shelf in the (unheated) greenhouse till they sprout? It's a bit safer from mice .. maybe.. I thought. :-\ ::)
I'm sorry Flowerlady but I can't answer your poll. I grow mine in pots. ;D
G xx
I start my in pots and plant out later.
I don't really think there's anything to choose between the two methods you suggest. It looks like a tie anyway.
I use root trainers for peas, well for lots in fact not just peas!

We start ours off in pots too and plant out later when they are strong enough. They just get nibbled if the peas are planted straight into the soil. busy_lizzie
Having starting them in pots what are the spacings? Does space give better production? :-\
Same as Jerry, in root trainers here and later on in trenches :)
I plant out from pots with a spacin of 9-12 " between plants.
It does depend on the variety, but I have never had problems with weak cropping.
sorry i start mine in pots to then plant into soil when strong
Like grawrc I use guttering off the floor in the greenhouse. We are plagued with pigeons so I have to net them when they finally go out though.
As this was a good fruit and seed w/e according to the moon, decided to pot up some peas in loo rolls.
So when they come up, if they come up, maybe I will plant them in 2 rows in a trench ;D
sow mine in march then cover with a plastic cloche, never failed me yet.
