Post by: kenkew on January 27, 2006, 16:31:20
Thought I might put a crossword together on a garden/lottie theme. Thing is, where to put it so ppl can access it?

I think Ken meant how to present the cross word on the site so that we can all view it (and read it).  I think the location on the internet for it was never in doubt!

Ken: Why not scan it onto your computer as large as you can ( i am assuming here you have a scanner?), save it as a Jpeg, then upload to photobucket (or if you have the facility direct to a4all), From there post it into A4all like a photograph. Then we can all print it out and have a go!

Thanks GC.
That was the route I considered. I just wondered if I could create it in word and somehow download here it for ppl to print off and do it off site. Is that possible somehow?

If you click on this link http://www.eclipsecrossword.com/ (http://www.eclipsecrossword.com/) you can get a free crossword compiler which you can use to make an interactive crossword in java or one other format.  You can also produce files to use and print in Word or other documents.  If you e-mail the interactive web page to Dan, he may be able to host it.  If you have your own web pages you will be able to upload it by FTP.  There is a crossword I have created here: crossword (http://www.baumber.lincs.sch.uk/The_School/Class_2/lit_-le_words_xword.html)

PS it does not run in FireFox - needs IE

Thanks Red. I have a compiler (will have when I sort how to stop my spyware prog from blocking it!)
I'll see if I can download a puzzle from my Word to a freeby net site. Cheers.

KENKEW: I did one once - created it in Excel, copied it as a table into a Word document, wrote the clues underneath and sent it as a document to an MSN group I belong to.

HTH.

Until we get the crossword, here's a game for you...

Heldi writes:

("Rat! %(&^*&^%^%^ Rat!)&*^)&^&%Rat!)&^&**&**!!!")

Task is to substitute letters for symbols - remember they've got to pass Dan's swear filter :P

;D ;D ;D

I didn't realise Dan had a swear filter until today. Suddenly, one of my rude words got changed to 'nuts'! Thought the squirrels had been at me post  ;D

Just tried downloading from Word to a site. Won't accept files with Doc. extentions...!

Convert to html or get a pdf maker - there are a few freebies out there but I use Adobe Professional so don't knwo any links.

Oh and just to reaffirm, the software I provided a link for does make html pages with a java crossword on so there is no need to convert, it is web ready.

You can use this MSN group if you like! I started it for photos but ran out of space!

Just post the Word Doc. as an attachment in the 'Messages' section.

This link should work for a garden related crossword. It's not interactive so it means you need to cut and paste into MS Word. First one is quite simple to test it out. Let me know how you go on.

Deleted 'cos MSN is a load of rubbish when it won't allow file insertions.!

Ken, I have tried to access your MSN website three times and each time my ISP has gone down.

I can access Trixie's and it is not in Dutch for me (obviously detects Tulip is in Holland).

I wondered if anyone else has the same problem.  I was looking forward to the puzzle.

I'll delete the above link...It doesn't even work for me!
Anyone into Plot(cross)words will have to send an E-mail so I can send it back to you as a Doc. file until I get an FTP off the ground.
