Title: Onions and worms
Post by: krisali on January 25, 2006, 18:19:52
Hello everybody,
I've got my new plot and I'm very busy making compost bins and raised beds and chasing every horse in Walthamstow  ;D

One of the old boys down the lottie was inspecting my kitchen waste compost bin and he remarked that I shouldn't compost onion peelings because the worms don't like them, in fact, they won't come anywhere near my compost.

Is this true?   ???

*bowing down to all greater knowledge*

It's always 'one of the old boys'  ;D  I put onion peel and chopped onions in my compost bin and never had a problem...compost has turned out well. :)

If worms don't like onion flavour, why are there lots of 'em at the base of leeks I take out? As Sanders says, careful on the citrus.

Good point, Ken.  Funnily enough the old boy also included leeks in what not to put in my compost bin  :P
