Title: White Rot
Post by: tim on January 25, 2006, 09:18:29
I know it's a 'top tip' - but it's more urgent than that.

This year - just in case - we will ALL keep a bucket of Armillatox in the shed for sterilising any tools used in or near alliums. Won't we!

I think we have had to give up on the onions, me old friend, the rot has beaten us. The over wintering ones and shallots seem ok at present so we will stick with them and ugh dirty word buy the others.  If you have not got Armillotox then ordinary bleach will do, just wipe over the blades with a bleached cloth.

My onions were good this year but I think it was more luck than judgement....therefore I shall take advice from one who clearly 'knows his onions' and get 'arm'-ed......

Tim, the very thought of moving sends shivers down my spine! I HOPE we'll be here for a good while yet and as OH's house 'up north' still hasn't sold, that seems likely, thank goodness!

PS Although OH taking over the greenhouse as storage is NOT to my liking!

sorry all,
I think I have posted my problem on the wrong page.  I am new at this and it's a bit complicated but I promise to do better.

I think I will be buying some Armillotox as I had a bit of the rot last year - I will also be buying some cheap garlic to much up in water and dowse all over the infected bed and I will then be wetting and covering with black plastic at the hottest part of the year and then in the autumn I will burn all my rubbish on that bed.
