Title: Clear-up satisfaction
Post by: CotswoldLass on January 24, 2006, 18:07:58
It was a lovely day here today, so started the big post-winter clear-up. SO satisfying! Need a hot bath tonight but the front drive looks wider, have seen evidence of lots of new growth, and now it all has room to breathe.......

Red sky tonight - shepherd's (and hopefully my) delight so will be out again tomorrow.

Very very foggy start in my part of Cambridgeshire today.  Cleared south of the city into cold but bright afternoon but going north on my way home the fog was just as thick as first thing!  Hate fog - dreary stuff but the frost that came with it was pretty.

beautiful day here today in (West) Yorkshire, but have been at work all day  :'(  its definitely getting lighter at each end of the day.  Saturday was so nice at the lottie that it was t-shirt weather - yes, honestly ... forgot it was still January.

It's been freezing here, the ground is frozen hard so no digging can be done, it's either frozen or soggy. I really want to get to the plot and do some work but not much can be done until everything thaws and dries out a bit.

It's VERY frosty this morning! (Must have headed this way from Cambridgeshire) Looks beautiful, but not a working day.

Mind you, can still admire yesterday's handiwork....and OH had a bonfire eysterday and got rid of LOADS of stuff that's been hanging around, so we can see'the trees from the wood' now. Feel in a planning mood.

Wrap up warm

F F F F F F F F F Freezing here in Essex this morning.  -3 when I took the urchins to school and then I went on to a garden I look after.  BBRR.  I need to start digging a new bed there, but the ground was like a brick, so did some pottering and tidying, then came home.  Lunch time was gorgeous, the sun was out, the sky was blue, there wasn't a cloud to spoil the view.......but now it is grey, and dare I say it....it looks like a snow filled sky!

Bright sunshine when I took Granddaughter to hosp for x-rays, when we came out sun still shining but had few spots of rain. Was nice when the sun was out .. Then it turned cloudy and a light shower.

its getting noticably lighter at both ends of the day as well ... yeah !  makes work day much easier when you can come and go in the daylight.

More light DOES improve things doesn't it! I was walking the dog at 5 this afternoon, having been down to the shops on my bike just before. Bliss....and it can only get better!

Talking to a friend in our (fab) village library, who did the same as I did on the clearing, we were a bit worried about taking away all the protective stuff, but I don't think the hardy perennials will mind and the bulbs are just little green bits...more eficient people would have done it before no doubt!

Here's to light evenings - am already planning the first barbie!

I have been on the allotment all day today and it has been lovely. I have been muck spreading and digging and have had no problem with the soil it has worked a treat.
The birds are building nests as well, I hope they know what they are doing.
There were 4 more people on the plot also which is a lot for mid week at this time of year. I got my allotment about this time last year and didn't see a soul for about three months.

Where are you Rosemary? Have to say we clear-ups are in the minority over here, but there was blue sky today.. and what better way to keep warm than gardening! But I didn't do anything today.

I'd rather be outdoors, but then today from my study window, a little wren perched on the christmas tree (alive in a pot outside). It was gorgeous!

Desparate to clear up my garden but it is too soggy.  Heavy clay and despite digging in loads of manure and compost it still floods.

Have been held up with digging at the lotty too because it was in danger in becoming a quagmire.

Bring restricted to weekends I am green with envy that you can be down the allotment during the day!  I can only get down there on the weekend and even then it's usually the Sunday as I also work on the Saturday.  Roll on longer evenings and the erection of the shed!

It TRIED to snow here this morning but basically it turned to wet straight away. Found out how wet when I took lurcher out this afternoon for her walk. Met up with her greyhound friend so did a longer circuit - then spent ages scraping the mud off boots!

Very cold..........brrrrr........CLx

Why, thank you! There's something very peaceful about a field of poppies. Or maybe it's 'cos we're longing for long summer evenings and some bloomin' warmth!! ;D

Lovely avatar!

Sitting here looking out the window over the dormant winter garden, gave me a real boost to see lovely poppies.

It is lovely to watch the birds at the moment though. Little tiny wren comes and forages right outside the window.

Better do some work then..........CLx
