Hi All, has anybody seen or is anyone going to enter for this
New programme, as seen on the BBC gardening website,
Are your pumpkins prizewinners? Are your carrots the cream of the crop? The National Village Show is a new BBC programme exploring the world of the village fête and they're looking for gardeners who have what it takes to win Best in Show.
The village show is a national institution where members of the British public take huge pride in growing the biggest vegetables, decorating the most sumptuous cakes and creating the most beautiful handicrafts. For many people, being a champion in their village show is the highlight of their year. Now they will have the chance to be a national champion on the BBC as well.
Six regional heats will take place around the country between August and September, with the series culminating in the grand final where the National Village Show champions in each category will be crowned.
The show will follow members of the public as they sow their seeds in March, make their jams in June and bake their cakes in July, culminating in the regional heats.
The show categories will be:
heaviest leek
longest carrot
heaviest marrow
heaviest cabbage
heaviest pumpkin
best pickled shallots
best tomatoes
best runner beans
best raspberries
best strawberry jam
best fruit cake
best decorated cake
tallest sunflower
best floral arrangment
best miniature garden (under-12s)
best knitting.
So if you think your marrows, cakes, sunflowers, handicrafts or any other traditional village show category could win you that much coveted title, then make sure you contact the programme makers, 12 Yard Productions, as soon as possible.
