Title: chives?
Post by: aquilegia on March 01, 2004, 16:04:14
I sowed a load of chives direct last year but nothing came up. Over the weekend I noticed that exactly where I sowed the seeds there are now little tufty grasslike plants growing. Might this be last year's chives? Or is it yet another weed?

Would think yes! Chives are just coming through - ours are about 3" high. = Tim

I just hope the ones I sow this year germinate a little quicker!

Sow 'em in a pot on the kitchen window ledge, they'll be through in a couple of weeks

Harden em off and plant out from start of April

I didn't realise you could harden things off that early, even when the plant is hardy.

I was trying to save room on the window ledges for my more tender seeds, but I shall do some Chives tomorrow!

Does that mean I can do the same with leeks?

Yep and onions, they usually are planted out late April early May
