Title: Lottie yesterday
Post by: ina on February 29, 2004, 08:20:28
I wanted to see if I could still post pictures and since I went this far, I might as well leave it.

Can't wait to put the windows back into the greenhouse but the canals on either side of the railroad are still frozen (thus giving access to vandals) I'll just have to be patient.
The broadbeans are looking strong and healthy, under the tunnel I have balcony boxes with broad bean seeds waiting to come up, just in case.

I was just thinking Ina. What is the security like on your site?  You refer to vandalism problems when the canal is frozen over. Is the site 'open' to the canal, i.e no fence?  If it is a problem then perhaps it is somthing the site owner/management should address.

Hi Richard,
The lottie complex is really big, over 200 lotties. Most of it is surrounded by canals and rail road embankment with another canal on the other side. The part that borders a road where the entrance also is, has a fence and gate. So, exept for in winter when the canals are frozen it is quite secure.

The gate is not locked until the last one leaves in the evening. One time, people must have thought they were the last ones (no more cars in the parking area) so we were locked in, no problem as every member has a key but.........our key was at home hahaha. No problem scaling the gate, we even managed to hoist our bikes over it and we are no spring chickens either. Still, most vandalism happens in winter, break-ins, rock throwing at windows and even arson. It's a crying shame.
