This is a picture I took whilst bored yesterday. After seeing the great flower and plant paintings posted thought would have a play with Photoshop.
Its only a first attempt so please be gentle.

Thanks for kind replies. Finished this one about 3 minutes ago. Will try with some more Hyacinth ones later.

Wow... I can't paint at all but I could have fun doing that!
Fantastic, picture, never been to Cornwall.

Excellent, I always give up with such programs, I dont seem to have the patience.
Hope you dont mind I selected it as my desktop background. It looks rather good. 8)
Last couple for a while. Glad you like them, Rosebud enjoyed Cornwall so much going back this year.

one of mine~spring 2005
good fun ;D
These are really great effects DD and GW. I'd like one of a chicken ! Do you do request?! :)
A couple more photos. I've managed to get the conversion process down to 1 click of the mouse now. I just open a new image, run action ( for anyone who doesn't use Photoshop, a bit like a macro in Excel.) A set of pre recorded instructions to the program to convert the image. Saves a lot of time in the long run, doesn't seem to be quite right but near enough for now. Obviously title added after.
First photo is the original image, then a new version just using 1 click.
Hope you approve

can you post me the original of your wee bird dd?
Truely amazing pictures DD, I love the Hyacinth, please do me one sometime, Cornwall does indeed look lovely maybe this year who knows.
Thank you for posting those lovely pictures DD. ;D ;D
Absolutely beautiful - but I'm never going to paint again!!!!
Plocket after just posting your paintings you can't stop now!
I won't stop! I'm just playing!!!
Thank goodness for that! You have such talent.
Oooh I could hug you! Thank you! I was swearing away last weekend at my lack of ability - I had problems mixing exactly the right pink! Still not happy, but I'll try again when I get a free moment!
After all Plocket it was after seeing your wonderfull paintings I tried to emulate it by using Photoshop. Being a person with no artistic ability it allows me to produce pictures I would have been proud of having a smidging of your ability.
This is my latest attempt, learnt something new today. Take a picture of my writing, turn it into a paintbrush to give a signature.
It was taken at the pretty Cornish village of .................. any guesses ?
DD
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/Dirkdigger/mouseholewatercolour2copy.jpg)
Well I'm truly honoured Dirk. I think your photo-paintings are fantastic! What software are you using coz I'd love to have a go? Don't know Cornwall very well - Polperro? (Or whatever it's called!!!)
All down to your inspirational paintings Plocket.
Software using is Photoshop CS. A bit on the expensive side, but sure a lighter version called Photoshop Elements would allow the same amount of manipulation. I think the latest is Elements version 4 retails at about £49 I think. Full version is about £400 - £500 pounds, a bit heavy for most.
I have elements version 3, will try and emulate a painting on there and post it.
No its not Polperro, any other guesses ?
DD
Hum I think I'm going to have to stick to paper, paints and brushes! Any spare cash I have is being saved for a visit to GWL this year! Could I ask a favour? If I post a picture of one of my flowers, one that I've painted, could you work your magic and see how it turns out. I'd be interested to compare my work with yours! And if you don't feel like it/don't want to I really won't mind - honest!
Would love to have a go, how could you get the image to me without disclosing E-mail address online ? Could it be PM'd its just I've not enabled my PM's yet.
DD
I can post it on here if that's ok!
Even better idea.
DD
Give me a mo then!

DD
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/Dirkdigger/plocket1.jpg)
Oh WOW!!!! They are quite amazing! When you get a chance you'll have to tell me what the procedure entails. I'm fascinated!
I am quickly running our of wall space for these FABULOUS pictures! I already have a mass of Greenwizards pictures in the kitchen, now these. I love them all! Wish I had an art package on my 'puter, maybe then I could do something pretty from the rough old snaps I take. Keep posting them, they brighten my day!
As promised Plocket, finished a couple of minutes ago. Think I prefer this one to the earlier one.
Process involves creating 4 identical copies of the original photo. Changing them all in different ways to produce the finished result. My procedure is to turn 1 to black and white, find the edges on another, increase saturation of colour on another and last of all blur with Gaussian blur. They then get blended together to produce the basic image. A texture like sandstone is then put over the image to try and reproduce the watercolour paper effect. Sandwiched down to one picture then a border and title added.
Hope you like.
DD

another quick attempt of the sunflower
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/Dirkdigger/flaminghell.jpg)
now that is very pretty dd :)
also prefer your 2nd attempt
Yes eveyone the same effect can be produced with Adobe Photoshop Elements version 3 or 4. Made this one just now using same procedure but used Elements 3

Come on GW your turn!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
no way dd little ol'me can't compete with those. ::) ;D
really like the last one :) love the way it's spilling over the black edging.very clever indeed.
more ;D more ;D
DD I think they are fantastic! Thank you so much for spending the time on them. I hadn't realised the process was so complicated - it might almost have been quicker to paint!!!
I too like the last picture and I think all of your work is lovely.
Have you ever heard of Coral Draw? I've been given a copy and am wondering what it's all about.
Thank you again for doing the photos - they are quite stunning. Px
Thanks for the kind words Plocket. The process sounds complicated but its really very easy. Instead of performing all the changes on every photo you save the set of instructions as a Action in Photoshop. Much like a macro in Excel. When you tell Photoshop to perform this action, all the changes happen in a split second, leaving you with the final result. Problem I'm having at the moment is getting a good result by this method on all photo's. Seems a little hit and miss at the moment. Still good fun trying anyway.
Coral draw is a similar program to Photoshop I think, never used it myself. Go on give it a go, after all nothing ventured and all that.
As long as everyone isn't getting to bored with pictures will try and post some more by the weekend.
DD
I'm not getting bored with your pictures at all!!! Can't wait to see more when you get a chance!
Corel Photo-Paint is now installed - it looks really scary though. I've learned how to make it look as though a corner is curled over though - how useful is that!!!??? I think I'll leave this fancy stuff to you and GreenWizard!
Looe, perhaps? It's been a long time since I was last there though, and I'm guessing.
Hi Dirkdigger
I still like the Marigolds one you put on a competition several months ago best, but now closely followed by the hyacinth... The marigold is in a frame above my desk, and I still want it there, if that's OK!
Margi x
No problems Margi, as I always said all my photos can be used as you wish. If I was worried about copyright I wouldn't have posted them for everyone to hopefully enjoy.
DD ;D

Blimey. They're stunning. Would have a go myself but utterly useless with computery things ;D
It's not Mousehole is it?
Yep, 10 out of 10 ;D ;D ;D
Haven't been there for many years. I still remember the night eight guys from the village were lost in the Penlee lifeboat.
We've got a wonderful story called "The Mousehole Cat" - about the fishermen and a terrible storm. I'd love to visit there one day.
A few more, Tintinhall photo I have tried to make like pastel crayon drawing not sure if it works. Secondone is the same photo as the first Cornish photo and the last is a bay nearer to lands end.

done 3 fests, 95 (sunny), 97 (?, gale force winds and poured down), and 2000(i think, a mixture of weather) and loved it so much that the next year when the fest was having a wee break, i went down on my todd and had a bit of spiritual healing. Unfortunately, it's too far for me now just to jump in the car and head west, but i can wait to plan my next visit. it's such a lovely area fest or no fest.
