Title: Scrubbing off premature potato shoots
Post by: MutantHobbit on January 14, 2006, 23:00:17
Apologies if this has been covered before, but the search function appears kaput at the minute. :'(

Despite leaving them in a box in the shed where it's dark, tiny shots are starting to appear on some of my spuds.  Should I just rub them off, or am I running the risk of ending up with no shoots at all in 6 or 8 weeks time? :-\  Everything seems to happening early as far as spuds are concerned! :o ;D

Rub them off Dave if you want rid.  There will be no problem getting more.  If I had mine, they would already be in the light because they grow short and strong so never seem to get too long.  Don't know about this early though, never had mine in January.

I'd leave them.

I would get them into a cold light place as soon as possible, they will harden up and stop growing long then.

I just leave them in the study till it's time to plant. It's not ideal, but they always grow satisfactorily, so I don't worry.
