Title: Apple tree type.
Post by: Travman on January 09, 2006, 19:46:32
I have just got a dormant "James grieves" apple tree to plant at my lottie.
The question is ...
is this variety a spur bearer or a tip bearer? ???
I have trawled the net but not come up with any answers :-\

I would say spur. A lovely apple. A bit big, colourful, softish & doesn't keep.

Isn't Worcester Pearmain the only widely available tip bearer?

Not knowing nowt about apples what's the difference and and why is it relevant?

If there is something I do not know, it is something I need to know.

It will make a differance when pruning, if i cut back  i will loose fruiting tips. but a spur bearer will fruit along the length of the growth so i should still get some friut( in theory ;))
