Title: Adware.
Post by: telboy on January 06, 2006, 22:47:54
Cleaned 'em all out prior to entering the site.
After spending a while (only here), I find 13 'risks'.
Using 'Adware SE.
Any comments Dan?

What are they telboy ?

The only risk should be a cookie for this site.

Let me know and I will investigate.

No problems for me on this site  ???
A few cookie's with log on details which is nothing.

Could you have any auto-update programs checking other sites whilst your browsing ??

Sorry for delay Dan.
I normally run Adware & Spybot prior to entering the internet & clear anything found, but I don't take any notice of what it is.
Did the same today & MRU list (7 objects) came up. These are classed as 'negligible objects'. I'll repeat the excercise a few times & let you know if I find anything of concern.
The only auto update I run Travman is Norton.

In Response,

MRU List - This is a windows internal tracking mechanism called the Most Recently Used list, it is a windows feature.

Tracking cookie, I would guess login for the site, maybe paypal, and maybe one for the adverts (a necessary evil)

Does that make sense / put your mind at rest ?

Thanks Dan.
I followed up a post by Rosa-Mundi on another thread & tried the 'Shieldsup' checks. All ports were found to be rock-solid so I'm delighted with my protection.

Mine got so bad I've had to stop using internet explorer and download Mozilla instead  ??? It's an elderly machine that used to be in a web cafe, so god knows what it's been infected with. May have to give up and buy a new pooter...

I've been plagued with pop-ups that come up whenever I'm connected to Broadband.   It even comes up when I shut all my programs down.  I've run Virus checkers with up to date Virus lists which have cleaned out my computer of viruses and adware, but don't seem to have stopped it as it seems to be running independently of my browser.  Is it using my Instant Messager Services? >:(

I've included part of a screen capture that showed one.

If somebody could say what it is and how to get rid of it, I would be grateful! ;D
