Title: Chaffinch
Post by: telboy on January 05, 2006, 16:20:05
For a number of years now, a single Chaffinch will repeatedly peck at one of three of our house windows. Sometimes this goes on for 20 mins..
The aspect of the windows are all except east (none).

Any comments?

Several possibilities; one is small insects attracting his attention, another is that he's seeing his own reflection. A third - have you checked whatever the glass is set in? Years ago bluetits destroyed our window putty - had to net it in the end!

It's been along time since my initial post.
The little 'Bu**er' (s) has now been pecking at the same west facing window since16th. December last.
Don't they get bored? You wanna see the state of the glass!

If it's a male he's probably attacking what he imagines to be a territorial rival.
