Hi
we have a lovely pond in our new allotment, very well populated with frogs (I think to keep the slugs down?). Do we need to do anything th look after the pond and frogs or are they self maintaining?
thanks
Emma
i have a very large pond which i keep fish in , have plenty of frogs and toads in there to , never have to tend to them they just look after there self and seem to breed and multiply nicely with no help at all , they do like lots of weed to spawn in but a part from that they look after there self i fink
Just don't put fish in, they're horribly predatory. Leave the pond alone, apart from maybe dredging it out if it starts silting up. Frogs need shallow water, toads and newts rather deeper.
When we filled in our big pond, the frogs came to the bird bath we had sunk in the ground, to mate.
The thing was VERY crowded, so we made a small pond, just for the frogs.
Try and keep your pond from icing right over, otherwise, if any frogs are in there, they can get trapped and die.
