Is there any tea left in the pot? Seemed to have stumbled in a bit late. Tea probably cold, but I'll bung it in the micro for a tic
I'll make a fresh pot, nothing worse than stewed tea! ;D
Might make a cup of chamomile & honey but first I have to do the washing up as no cups left :'(

You obviously haven't had tea made up in Scotland... the spoons melt, the fillings run out of your teeth, the moisture gets sucked out of the inside of your mouth and you end up running around the Glens like a loony. :-X;D
Makes you work like a Trojan outside in the rain though! I've heard most of the tea in Glasgow is the same. I wonder what they put in it? ;) I got used to it after drinking it for a week or two..
so glad i dont drink tea ;D ;D ;D

Aww Ady thanks matey....she's 13 in 1 week and trying to find out about tudor well tarts!! Also wants me to make a marzipan goblet, smaller than a 20p piece containing sweetmeats...... ::)
Perhaps the recipe could be posted... can it be made in a bread machine!!?
Evening all. Where's Wardy? We have unfinished business... >:(
Well, she was decking someone from the Post Office last I saw her.....good luck.... :-\
Wardy is out looking for you, something about yer bean trench, is it deep?  Are you really a woman?  Wheres  Lots tonight?  Ah just spotted you Lots. when you having a party then. Me an Jags on our way down the road now, am on my laapy doing this.....
;D ;D ;D
Blue decking a la Alan Titchmarsh ?
It's ok anyway - I'm disguised as a midget with big, massive DMs on...
Psssst....don't tell him....but it's now a DM party...cos Dibs and I are too easily shockable, and feel we're too young and imressionable for the other.. ;D
Think not, Bags, think decking as in large hammer and juming up and down...
Bet you look lovely, Max.... ;D
Manchet:
• 1 1/4 cups lukewarm water
• 1 tbsp yeast
• 1 tsp suger
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 3 cups flour
To save time, I used a bread machine for the kneading and initial rising of the dough. Each batch was formed into 3 loaves (I didn't want really large loaves that would fill people up) wrapped in foil and placed in the freezer. They were then thawed out for the second rise and baked at the event. Bake at 400° F for 20 minutes.
As you can see the Manchet (spelling it right now) is basically just white bread.
Maslin Bread
For maslin bread, I have used strong plain flour instead of the wholemeal which would have been more common in poorer households. The white flour makes the bread lighter. There is a good mix of flavours with the slightly sour rye complementing the sweet barley. The bread is made up like the standard bread dough, so I have given the ingredients without the method.
No of Servings: 1 Cooking Time: Over 60 mins
Meal Course: Any Course
Ingredients
1 oz (25 g) fresh yeast
10 - 12 fl oz (275 - 325 ml) warm water as above
10 oz (275 g) strong plain flour
3 oz (75 g) barley meal
3 oz (100g) rye meal (note: this is not the metric equivalent but makes up the correct amount in the mixture)
Method
Refer to any standard bread dough recipe.
I didn't bother with the barley and doubled the rye. Any amount of rye is authentic because they grew the rye and the wheat together - the rye would succeed if the weather was too wet for the wheat so in a poor harvest, the proportion of rye would be higher than after a good harvest. The barley isn't particuarly authentic I don't think - I think it is added to make it more palatable for the less daring.

I've always wanted to do a car boot sale with just crap like used polystyrene coffee cups, and old tissues, shoe laces etc, cos I'm sure they'd all sell!!
OK I admit I've started reading page 2 :-[
We once did a car boot sale and this woman stopped to look at a  paralel ruler priced at 5p. She asked what it was. We explained. She didn't quite get it. So we demonstrated it. She asked if it was suitable for children. We said suppose so. She asked if it would be suitable for an 8 year old. We said suppose so. She looked at it and picked it up and rolled it. This went on for 15 minutes. Then just as she got her money out (5p remember!) she noticed it had a chip and decided not to buy it!
Thought this would fit in nicely in this thread:

Phew... I've read all the 377 pages of this thread (or so it seems) :P In dire need of cup of tea, Scottish or otherwise will do.
How many of you are in a bean trench by now? ;)
D
Hey is this thread dying? :'( No one has posted in the last half hour. Meanwhile Nicholas the ebay sprout has reached 13409 hits. Surely we can do better?
cant look at that sprout any more i feel so sorry for it , not a bad price for a sprout ;D ;D
News is not good Lilo. Looks like manager coming back :'( and Mr Trew (joint chairman/powerful moneybags) is going to resign in protest. ??? Might be a lot of infighting both in the boardroom and amongst the fans. There are a lot of Keith Alexander loyalists (who rarely attend matches) who are getting on the bandwagon and shouting at us because we have lost patience - we are watching it week in week out and see how poor it is.
I dropped me ear stud....anyone seen it? ???
Did you see where it rolled to?
Bid up to £1,200 now!
14547 hits as well.
Think it kinda bounced, Ady....may be under Wards DM? ;D
You'll have to get it back then. I'm a bit scared of her and staying over here. :-\
i seen you ear stud lottie it was in the middle of my cabbage , ;D ;D ;D
I keep losing the earring butterflies, but don't notice until well after the incident has occured.
Thinking of butterflies, it was a flutterby in Hong Kong flapping its wings that made you drop the ear stud.
Ah yes, Multi, the chaos theory.....know it well.. ;D
Ta Dibs!! Erm...think this caterpillar belongs to you.... :-X
Think it is time to boil the kettle. Will fill it right up (more than I need for one cuppa, but we are still on a boil water thing).

PS - I was planning lessons, then went out to plan scouts and all that with turmoil at my football club. Only popped in here to fire a small shot across the bows of edibles then popped back to my footy chat.
A likely story... yes, was fun with Dingledong, was wondering how you feel about a new name Ady....just for a change.... ;D

Nice grunions Lottie :o :o
I think you should go for something sophisticated like ...errrrm .... sorry, don't do sophisticated...
Is this still going then ?
Yes I've always liked my grunnions... ;D
Yup! Bags!! Can you guess it's winter.... ::) ;)
lottie i never new you looked so pretty  :o :o :o :o why what big wheels you have  ;D ;D ;D ;D
...so two 'n's in grunion, then?
I don't know!! I'm an aeroplane wheel....honestly.. ::)
the general rule is that where you have a hard vowel sound e.g. 'a' as in apple, then you have a double consonant but where you have a soft vowel 'a' as in aid then the consonant remains single. Thus you have hopping (hard vowel) and hoping (soft vowel). Therefore onion, not having (an exception) an 'o' as in not sound can have a single consonant whereas grunnion has an 'u' as in cut so will more than likely require two 'n's.
???
I think you'll find it has 1 'n'. I was, of course referring to the well known fish, to wit:
QuoteAlong southern California’s sandy beaches, from March through September, one of the most remarkable life cycles in the sea is completed; the California grunion comes ashore to spawn. The grunion has been known to many southern Californians for more than 70 years, but there are still those who are skeptical of its existence. To be invited out in the middle of the night to go fishing with only a gunny sack and light for equipment does sound a little ridiculous, but in reality this is the most popular method.
California grunion are small silvery fish found only along the coast of southern California and northern Baja California. Most sportsmen would be unaware of their existence were it not for the unique spawning behavior of these fish. Unlike other fish, grunion come out of the water completely to lay their eggs in the wet sand of the beach. As if this behavior were not strange enough, grunion make these excursions only on particular nights, and with such regularity that the time of their arrival on the beach can be predicted a year in advance. This phenomenon can be seen on many beaches in southern California. Shortly after high tide, on certain nights, sections of these beaches sometimes are covered with thousands of grunion depositing their eggs in the sand.
Grunion hunting has become one of the famous sports of southern California. Since these fish leave the water to deposit their eggs, they may be picked up while they are briefly stranded. Racing for fish spotted far down the beach and trying to catch them by hand provides an exhilarating experience for young and old. The common sight of thousands of people lining the more popular beaches in southern California in anticipation of a grunion run attests to its ever growing popularity. Often there are more people than fish, but at other times everyone catches fish. All that is needed to catch grunion is a valid State fishing license and a willingness to get one’s feet wet.
Fascinating.
Blimey Clanger that's dead clever.
OK, I'm lost again, so what has grunions got to do with undercarriages? ??? and does an undercarriage grunnion have 2 nns? :'(
And that is a huge quote! ;D
But Max, is your Grunion a Grunnion or a Groonion?
this post is climbing in the A4A stats!

the cold miserable rain here has even stopped me emptying the rubble out of my loft lottie. That's another set of pot wheelies to buy so I can whizz all the pots around and hang out my washing.

No problem, I've found another tin of curred parsnip mince pies and a few sprout vol au vents, we'll dine in style!! ;D will just have a rummage, see if I can find those carrot souffle sausage rolls....ang on a min... :)
Oooh - I love a good cup of strong assam tea - furry mouth from the tannin just right up my street. Could you put an extra bag in for me please?
ooh noooo not bags, loose leaf or nothing.
Ady...tst.... ::) have you finshed grrrrring now?
You'll have to excuse Ady, Froglets - he's from Lincolnshire y'know... not cultured like us Yorkshire folks
And Suffolk!! OK....prob not actually, bit in the wilds.... :-X we still have pony express for mail delivery... ::)
funnily enough, the alternative to Assam is Yorkshire Gold
Must dash I only logged on to pay a bill so will have to construct a techie reason as to why it all took so long...
There was an error on the screen which led to the system incorrectly interpreting the triple indirect pointer. Â this caused a blue screen of death followed by an incorrect ipconfig release and fluffy bunnies chewed the cable and I came over with an attack of the vapours.
which was nice.
Lots - What is ...'Suffolk'?? Breed of pig?
froglets - I can tell you're gonna be right at home round here ::) :)
I use bags because it is more use in the garden and on the lottie. Have you tried lining the bottom of plant pots with loose leaf tea. The result is very messy window sills. Also smacking the bottom of your teapot over your compost heap does not get all the tea leaves out and there are still some that get washed down the drain - a shamelful wast in my opinion so its bags all the way ;D
ooh dear sorry to hear that Froglet but still  tea is just the thing for an attack of vapours.  Have a macaroon to dip in it.  Drat there's tea leaves in mine.  Bet RC didn't use the strainer.  He's from Lincolnshire you know.
What is SUFFOLK!!! It's the hub of the universe, of course!! And a breed of horse, strangely...and pig....mmmmm.....and pink colour too, I believe.. :)
It's nice to think a pink pig called Suffolk is the hub of the universe....

Not if you're a Suffolk pig...
Ady....you were soo close to a thwack, but I'm in a fine mood so will just explain..... Dad had a pig farm, I used to sit on the back of the bores and ride them round the farm....OK? Clear? ::) ;) ;)
Male pigs boring too, then....??
You sat on the backs of bores!  Well done you  ;D  Bet that sorted em  :)

Can't keep up with you lot, been taking things too easy today and fingers are so cold that they won't type quick enough to post before you's ::)
Quick now's our chance to vote on Delboys name change...! :)
very disappointed in you TM for your name change,
you will always be Dingledong in my eyes ::)
I'd rather see it as a little treat to be shared among friends.... ::) :)
No pigs are boring Max.... ;D I started my strange habits young Wards! And they were real softies, I thought I'd been riding the same one for years, turned out dad changed them regularly, so been taking my life in my hands for about 10 years!!! Â ;D Â Weird sense of humour he had... ::)
Pigs, turkish delight? What??
your dingledong? Â ;)
Should we have this thread moving to the watershed?
;D ;D ;D
ya know, there is nothing rude about TM, dingledong. you just ahve dirty minds...
QuoteShould we have this thread moving to the watershed?
Got something to tell us Ady??
It's all the riding pigs that lottie is doing and the boring pigs that you are doing. I'm starting to get very worried that innocent children may be influenced by the actions of irresponsible people. ;D
Oh Dear Ady, ...................shame about Mark Jones :(

Delboy - it'll only encourage me ;)
It's all gone quiet over here and we only sing when we're winning :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Haven't you seen the pig races in Suffolk then Ady? We all charge about on them, jump the odd hedge then proceed to goat braiding.... :)
OMG :o It gets worse. Goat braiding now. Followed by wellie wanging no doubt.
Welly wanging doesn't happen til you've wonged your welly, silly.. ::) ::) ::)
Anyway, nearly overtaken those frivolous Lottie files, who's for a cuppa?
Just got time before launch...ta.. :)
6 sugars?
I think the goat and pig are feeling a little thirsty - I'm a bit busy practicing wanging and will be over later.
I am glaring you know, there is just no suitable face for the one I'm pulling...
Ady you need to wong first.... ::)
Nah - I've mastered wonging - definitely need to work on my wanging now.
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
He's doing it all wrong Delilah, that welly is just not going as far as it should be.....perhaps he'll be better at goat braiding..... :-X
It's here Dominique :D
Its what you need to learn before you learn wanging
but surly you need to learn wunging before wonging?
Glad that's all been cleared up then.
Quote from: adam04 on January 07, 2006, 22:53:47

Don't tell lottie that Adam - I'm really knackered already what with my pig riding, goat braiding and welly wonging and wanging lessons. If she throws in wunging as well, I think I will break down.
Quote from: redclanger on January 07, 2006, 22:55:55

:o :o :o :o
Don't ask ;D
how many times have you rode a pig today Ady?
I haven't got as far as riding pigs yet. I am still at the wonging stage as I failed wanging and got relegated and in my other lesson I am still trying to master goat braiding. That lottie is a hard taskmaster and if I do not get it right first time....Thwack!!.
hes told all now?
So how do you pig ride?? ;)
carefuly of course ;) ;D
Quote from: adam04 on January 07, 2006, 10:54:02

Not raining here! Just going to ask sister-in-law in Kent, just in case you are making rain an excuse to sit at keyboard all day ???
gloomy is the only way to descibe my wonderful town today :(
Helloooooooo ;D she says raising goggles....I've been busy repairing the rocket!! Lots of PVC or is it PVA.. ??? Mmmm and sellotape....dead chuffed! ;D
Sorry, when I was braiding it yesterday, I accidentally braided it into the curtains and now it can't move. And being such an amateur, and having wonging to perfect, I have not had time to unbraid it.
I'm afraid I will have to liberate it Ady. tut tut ::)
It's Max's fault Dominique....he's freed the goat!! It's rampaging all over the place now! ::) Hope it doesn't get into edibles or I'm for it... :-\
LOL! ;D For god's sake don't eat Ady's remaining garlic...
Serves Dominique right for not sorting me accutes and me graves (sp?)... ;)
I'll try and steer it to the Livestock bit....hope no one notices......oh bottoms!! It's in the laundry section! :o :-X

Or is it goat braiding...mmm...... ;D just feel indecisive .....
indecision.............indecision.......................wanging wins everytime ;D
Can I move onto wanging. I've been wonging for ages and I'm starting to get a bit sore. :-[
But are you ready, Ady.....Do you feel that inner confidence necessary for fully fledged welly wanging....?
practice makes perfect Ady.....................................try calendular cream ;D
Or if you fancy a change, you could attempt the age old Suffolk tradition of frog funnelling..... ;D
At the end of all this, ah'll be ar fully fledged suffolk bouy. Come on you Tractorboys. Haven't been in the North Stand for about 4 years now.
No...
