As I keep chickens I accumulate a few large paper feed sacks through the year. They are ideal for storing maincrop potatoes when lifted later in the year. I already have enough sacks to use myself, the ones that I will use up this year will be put into the recycling bin unless anyone here is interested in using them. If you're interested please post a message here, as they become available I'll pm you for an address to post them to. :)
ooh yes please Jess....had a reasonable crop last year (our first season) but only grew enough to store one sack full, so I've only got one sack and would love more for the (hopefully) increased crop this year
Thankyouthankyouthankyou

That's exactly what I'm keeping my chook feed bags for, perfect for the job aren't they ;D
They are perfect!
Sorry Plottie, I do have the first bag ready to go, just need to find a spare moment to get to the post office. Should be with you by next week I hope. :)
Yes please if possible, would be great.
Many thanks
Kate
Please could I grab whatever you can spare, thanks so much. i am showing optimism for my huge bumper crops to come this year!
Plottie, bag in the mail today, sorry about the delay. Should have another bag to post to next person on the list in a month or so. :)

Hi Jesse
Re: PM - will do just as soon as Dan let's me PM (have asked him)
Thanks
Diana
Ooh yes please ;D .. although I will only need them mid year. I am busy chitting some King Edward's and Pink Fir in potato barrel's this year. It is the first time that I am attempting potatoes so am rather nervous. A bit of hopeful thinking on my part that I will have any to put in the bags.
I need to find something to put store bought potatoes into as mine always seem to be going green in a couple of days of me buying them. I have even started putting them behind the kitchen door with a towel on them to stop them from going green and poisonous. Any ideas??
Am also trying to grow Harbinger and San Marzano (Organic) and Marmande Super (organic) Tomatoes in my greenhouse for the first time as well. Any one tried growing these varieties before and have any useful tips for a newbie?
Jitterbug
Glad you received the pm Diana, a few days before the bag is finished so no rush. :)
Jitterbug, I'll let you know when I need your address, will be a couple of months yet. About your questions on the tomatoes, why not post in the edible section as your questions may go unnoticed in this (the swap shop) section of the forum. :)
Jesse, can't send you PM as your inbox is full.
I think you'll have to delete some before I can
Let me know
Diana
Sorry Diana :-[, all cleared out now, try again :)

I have kept potatoes in a cardboard box with a piece of newspaper on top of them to stop any light getting at them, it seems to help. I suppose the cardboard is breathable unlike the plastic bags you buy them in and the lack of light stops them going green. They are in a quite cold kitchen. Having said that I have chooks now so I use the paper sacks now.
My allotment store sells them for some ridiculous price - around 5p or something. It's a shame we don't have mail order allotment shops for people who only have back gardens :D
Maybe Dan might like to start one? ;) ;) ;D :-* :-*
That's a good price bupster, I can't even post my freebie bags for that price! ;D
