Title: the next best thing?...
Post by: Dominique on December 29, 2005, 13:47:50
I know some of you will be self-sufficient (in vegs) but I'm far from it...   :-\  The week before Christmas, sprouts the size of currants, no more kale to pick for a while... Cabbages not quite there yet, all the best leeks already eaten, carrots finished   :'(
I ordered a box  from  www.riverford.co.uk/ keeping my fingers crossed.  And I was really pleased with it, so I thought I'd tell you about it... (Been spending the last 2 hrs preparing yet more veggies ....  ;  Why should I be the only one to suffer?  ;D  ;D  ;D )

Interesting site Dominique, we have a similar scheme in Lincolnshire but unfortunately they don't deliver as far north in the county as us, glad you enjoyed it though, shame about having to prepare yet more veggies but I'm sure they'll taste fabby :D

Those box schemes are fantastic aren't they!

We get a box from abel and cole every other week - which is enough to last us for two weeks. (I freeze half to use on the second week.) Most impressed by the quality and variety and saves me a lot of time doing shopping (which I hate!) I'm hoping to need one per month in the summer next year (I nearly typed "next week" - if only!)

THe only things we have out of the garden at the mo are rosemary, sage and chard. Finished the garlic last week. have a few spuds and shallots in storage and some sweetcorn and spinach in the freezer.

I don't think I have ever seen one in my area, but then we are blessed with lots of supermarkets selling veg at horrific prices ...  ;) I shudder to think how much we save by me growing our stuff.
