Title: C..c..c...c..cold!!!!!!
Post by: eileen on December 29, 2005, 09:49:47
-10 here!!!!!!

Almost got mobbed by the birds this morning when I went out to feed them!!!! Fingers were sooooo cold when I came in that they hurt.

Going to make myself a cuppa and then find another layer of clothes to wear.

Think I might just hibernate until spring.  :P

Down here where i am in Dorset, we dont often get what most of you would call a 'hard' frost (by which i mean lower than -5c). Lowest temperature in recent years in this area was reported as -8c.

Last night my greenhouse thermometer recorded an outside temperature of (wait for it)...

-8.4 C !!

Even the inside greenhouse temperature (with heat) was -1 c!

I cannot steel myself to garden in the mornings now, it is so blessed cold, and then I cannot get warm again. Perhaps an hour of hedgework in the afternoons ... but there so many other things that I can do here in the warm, get my wine on, sort my seeds etc. Grrr, I just feel guilty wasting all this useful time ...

It's freezing here too, though I haven't been in the shed to check the thermometer. I did nip down to the allotment quickly to take some pics. Three other people were down as well, one feeding his chickens, one immured in his shed and the other to meet a tree surgeon about pruning her ancient apple trees.

Just had our first snowfall down here. Only about a centimetre (1/3 inch), if that, but enough to bring the kids out to play on it.

It looks nice, but working in it's no joke, as I know from experience!

I agree with both of your comments, it makes nice pictures, but the environment is a sod to work in ...

Well thats that over with. Back to mild and soggy again. ::) ::) ::)

You know i think i much rather wake up to sun and frost than dark clouds and wet any day. It looks soooo depressing out the window today :(.

After a bit of white stuff last night for an hour, it is VERY soggy here. In fact the rain's managed to get into our bedroom wardrobe, so I'm drying out clothes that have just come back from the cleaners after it happened last time. Trying to track down a damp expert as we 'speak', as plan A clearly did not work....Arrrgh!!

I got down for an hour to prune my gooseberries and plant cuttings, but it was indeed soggy.
