Hi everybody,
One of the things I am curious about is what people should actually be doing when in fact they are logged on to A4A during working hours?
To start the ball rolling, I'm a technician working in a hospital, my job is to maintain and repair the Linear accelerators ( these are the machines they use to radiate cancer patients in radiotherapy). So if the machines are working I'm not needed and hence I'm sat at my bench on my computer logged into this forum. How about you?
MikeB
LOL!! Well, I'm a gardener and am off in bout 10 mins and thanks for the reminder.....need me thermos!! Though only getting 3 or 4 hours a day at the min.....so log in here when not, and pop in and out, though have to confess to not always being at puter when logged in.....ssshhhhh don't tell.... and also attempt to do me own books, designs etc on the puter so, that involves popping too, I pop alot.. ;D ;)
Like you Mike, I am also a technician, my job is to keep a workshop operational at a college. The workpattern has highs and lows, so I get some computer time. I leave the computer logged onto this site, then can just wander up every now and again and see what is happening ...
Derekthefox :D
I'm a zen master.
Yes, but in subtle ways...
Guess it's a bit on the late side to rephrase....and really TM? Am intrigued.......confused, embarassed but also intrigued... ;D ;)

Yes, but in subtle ways...
Forget it then, my OH said them there ways are wasted on me. Â Something about being a man. Over my head.
Quoteand really TM?
No. A real zen master would not claim to be a zen master.
I am not a zen master.
Shift work is my excuse......not very Zen!!
Is a Zen mistress something altogether different?!! ???
;D ;D ;D ;D
I run my own B & B and should be washing, ironing, making beds and hoovering but instead am on here as it's more fun. Â The last guest has just gone so I've washed up and made a cup of tea and logged on. Â Dog fed and back in his basket so should have a few minutes peace.
I also do freelance typing from home. I used to go out a great deal but had to reduce hours spent out at work as my mum was very ill and I have the world's worst behaved dog who hates being left on his own, so it was easier for me if I stayed home. Â Hence starting my own B & B Â :)
Ahh, but claiming not to be a zen master is the way of a zen master ...
Derekthefox :D
Ah the joys of being an unemployable drain on the workingperson!
I am logged on here now becasue a. Everywhere is frozen solid. b. The farmer is muck spreading chicken manure and that is the most appalling gut wrenching stench you can imagine. c. The computer chair is the best one for supporting my back so I look in when I come in from working in the garden

Now we're getting somewhere. Which is, of course, nowhere.
He he, true zen at last, which of course is not true ...
Derekthefox ;D
I'm at home with my 2 year old. I used to come on here when it was nap time but now its when she insists on watching Barney. I hate Barney,he's a big purple pain in the arse...a bit like piles then, I would imagine. My evil mother bought it.
..............NO I certainly shouldn't Mike ;) ;D Did my quota of hard slog for too many years I care to remember as a very hard working legal secretary. Having said that, thought I would become a lady of leisure when I retired, but find that there aren't enough hours in the day to do all the things I would like (apart from looking in to A4A of course ;) :)) and loads of gardening when the weather permits :) :) :) :)
You love Barney really Helly, you are just struggling to come to terms with it ... ;D
Derekthefox :D
Remember the mention about if I could handle an air rifle Derek ...with Barney in my sights I think I could!
and his two vomit inducing cohorts.
I think Heldi you have just supplied me with a reason to be glad that I'm older, I don't know who barney is, thankfully, I do own an air rifle though.
MikeB
Mike ...believe me you do not want to know...but because I have a mean streak...
THANK YOU so much Heldi, you have just transported me back 10 years to 5 years of.............. hell........................I knew all the songs..........wish I didn't, they still rumble around my head at times.
Kids had Barney books, Barney clothes, Barney toys and worst of all about 5 Barney videos kindly given to them from people...................................I still have them somewhere if you want them Heldi! ;D ;D
I love you
You love me...............................
(DP rushes off to be ill!)
Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination......etc.....etc......blah! Yup, we had it to, but only for a short spell THANK GOODNESS as daughter number one hated the kids on it!
Work, I am a mum....nuff said!
However, now they are both at school full time, I am, like many others, a gardener. I tend to log on at lunch time, bathtime and night time. ;D
Line him up, and forget the mask....ggrrrrrr...blow the air rifle, use a twelve bore!! ;D ;D ;D Not a favourite, you may have gathered....and whilst on the subject, make room in line for Postman blessed Pat, Engy Bengy and those rotund things that masquerade as teletubbies but aren't.....Ooo and sorry, but Barbie's getting it too...... Ken'll get over it..
And TM, still confused.....but will seek the answer in the apple trees......... ;D ;)
Quotethose rotund things that masquerade as teletubbies but aren't
Death to the Fimbles...
Bring it on!!! Am just in the right frame of mind to take em out....lovely morning at work, by the way.....if I have to suck up another b****y leaf, I'll be inserting the.....ahenm.....sorry.. ;D ......peace and love...but Pat's still getting it.....
Right, I think I need my hard hat and keep my head down. This board sounds a lot more dangerous than any blessed building site !!!
Derekthefox :D
Well am working in a Learning Resource Centre (library to the rest of us) in a school. So..............I have to keep up with the latest communication and information blah blah. What a better way to do so than this
Like Garden Girl after working for nearly 50 years (30 of them for OH) then looking after OH until he passed in to the great beyond I have completely retired, even got a base ball cap with "I am retired and loving it" printed on it. How sad ;D I do have the habit this time of year of leaving computer on and keep logged in to A4A then when I hear a little DING I can see new posts..
I work for the local council. Sit starting at a screen most of the day, and every now and again check A4A and post.
At the fear of being accused of being a pen pushing bureaucrat like the Telegraph always calls us, I'm a civil servant.
However I'm also a founder member of the "I hate any puppet/costume clad people" society which covers a huge range of childrens characters - some already mentioned - some not (the Clangers - sorry RC - being one which springs instantly to mind). I'm more than happy to join any possie that'll take them all out. ;D
Yyyeeeer Ha!! Rolling, rolling, rolling........erm.........screeches to a halt......wwhoooaa hossey.....one thing, am not good at lassoing though....will have to dismount, tie horse, pet horse, ask puppets to stand very still, while I sellotape them up......then will....Yyeeerr Ha......and look at them in a mean and surly manner.....and no spitting....... :-X ;D ;)
We never suffered Barney - my anti Americanism (Sorry John) really comes to the fore when it comes to Children's TV (and George Bush (there must be a witticism there somewhere))
Anyway - when I am at work I am surrounded by kids and cannot pop off to use the internet. When I am working at home (as now) then A4A is permanently on in the background and I use it as a form of brain gym and pop in and out. Occasionally after one or two many bottles of pop I might pop into chat to make a complete arse of myself.
I am self-employed so it all depends how full my diary is and whether or not I'm shipping the sprogs to and from horse riding and dancing as to when I can get on A4A - but like most of you have to admit to leaving the computer and staying logged on to A4A.
I forgot to add - is Playdays still on TV ................ Why Bird used to drive me insane >:(
It is going it be interesting this Christmas, managing not to watch any television at all, does that make me sad or more interesting ? Do I care? I know I wont be able to get near this machine during the day on Thursday or Friday as we have training days. Will I get withdrawal symptoms ?
Derekthefox :D
How is the hamster, Clanger... ??? ;D ;)
Delilah, I spotted a 30 sec window, come on gal, pull your finger out.... ;)
Ahh Delilah, you have the stables and dance school runs too ... mind you, I must be fair to my daughter, at 16 she is still willing to accompany her Dad on the ice rink tomorrow teatime !!! A lot of girls of that age would die with shame to be seen out with their parents ...

We have bought her a new cage, a cheap one. The one she keeps escaping from was really expensive but over the years I have noticed that the more you spend on a hamster cage, the crapper they are.
I'm presuming you're not talking bout Delilah here......
;D
I'm always escaping .......... the men in white coats are forever having to find me and lock me up again :(
TM - Why am I not surprised that you claim to be a Zen Master!
I like Postman Pat and his cat, and Mrs Goggins etc. Thought it better than most kids stuff on telly
I am also a civil servant.
Monday nite = free. Tues = dancing. Wed = lotty. Thurs = cubs. Fri + help at beavers/scouts. Sat = lotty. Sun = Drama (gang show rehersals)
Think that's it.
I am a medical scientist. Worked on the bench for the last 20 years. Now doing the paperwork (computing) for the quality control for the last 5 years & 2 days/week.
Have a 'special needs' 9 yo son. Has uncontrolled epilepsy, autism & developmental delay.  We STILL have tellytubbies, playschool, PP, wiggles etc...after 11 years!!! (EVERY DAY).  That is what babysits Daniel!!! By 3 pm I literally fall asleep (so bored with it, and I have to watch him 100% of the time). I sit in my recliner reading my gardening books ;D
Got in-laws to move in with us to help but FIL now has alzheimers. I had been on antidepressants too long before I made that decision-can really see the light now but too late.
My hardest job is my 11 yo son. Completely addicted to the computer (like his dad), very jealous of his younger brother and very defiant. NEVER does anything I say. A bit difficult with OH's head in the sand alll the time,
Was wonderful when I found this site & started gardening. A real breath of fresh air, genuine peeps and a lot of fun which I have so much needed in my life. :)
Try to get on A4A as much as I can. Have actually found some 'answers' bout my potatoes the other day so didn't need to post :) But what withdrawal symptoms for a few days ;D
Now I feel so much better.
Lorry Driver - nights (hang on I just need to overtake this mini full of pensioners)
Right where was I?
Only work on average 38 hours a week so I'm up at 11 am and have a blissful 4 hours till I pick the kids up from school.

Can't totally agree about American kids TV (although Barney is evil and so are the kids on the show) what about The Simpsons? Wait till your Father gets home, King of the Hill?
..and Family Guy...

I wouldn't put any of those in as kid's TV even though my kids love the Simpsons. I was thinking more along the lines of the preschool and infant aged stuff. Today we are looking at the letter zee.
No Delilah, because we have training days, I will probably not have access to my works computer ... they will have me jumping through hoops etc probably, seeing as they are training days ... I may get a few moments, and Friday late afternoon ... but I am not sure, it will be very weird for me ...
Derekthefox ;D
I should be out there at the moment, but I did not finish until 11. oclock last night. Oh the joys of working for yourself.
Have to stay in a bit longer so I can intercept the postie who should be delivering APN'S Â xmas present. She won't open it, but she is likely to shake the hell out of it . She seems to shake every box and present that comes into the house.
Once I filled a box with some broken crockery and it gave her such a shock when she thought she had broken her present. But it did not cure her.
Know how she feels ....I unfortunately NEED to have a shake and a squidge of any present to try and guess, thats half the fun! :D
Anna - sounds as if lifes a little tough for you, but pleased you've found your escape with A4A and the garden :)
Well, I've been very kind to me and given me the morning off!! ;D ;D ;D.....don't think I'd be very safe with any sharp impliments at work this morning.....actually,don't think I'd be very safe with a sandwich, come to think of it... ::) ;)
We have a no feeling or squidging rule in our house ;D
Clanger - hate those American kids programmes - the voices get on one's wick :)
Pete - like the new avatar. Noggin the Nog? Love that :)
Anna - sounds like you have a great deal on your plate so it's good that you can come on here and chat to us about things. Chin up :)
I'm in a good mood this morning as I cooked poached eggs for guest's breakfast and they actually turned out right for once ;D
ANNADL Like others have said we are here to lend an ear anytime you want.
PETE OY don't be cheeky about pensioners, would you like me to take you for a ride in my little old Chrysler Neon? Or even better will borrow sons Supra. BUT having previously been in haulage business for years I am inclined to agree with you ;D mind you when ruddy lorry drivers hog lanes at their steady 56mph and I want to do seventy I get a bit frustrated ::)
LOTTIE Read your first post and thought.. Oh she is back with the living but have just read second post and I am not so sure!!!!!!!
Well, at min Lorna, am trying to work out how to explain to the school, that I've booked a band for a non existent dance......in my er "happy" state last night, bumped into chap I know in band, and made the mistake of thinking that an idea I had in head, was in fact reality..... ::) ::) ::) so have now lumbered me with not only organising a gardening day, yes you're still coming..., but a dance after as well.....bring your sling backs....oh yes and how to wangle £125 out of school to pay for band.....will be in cupboard if you need me.... :-\
I build/repair/upgrade computers, and I work from home. Pretty cushy, eh ? ;D
Cushy? What - with no central heating on! Brrrrrrrrrrr ;D
Lottie. You are just being nice to me now.... sling backs? I thought you INSTRUCTED me to bring a spade ???
Erm....list seems to be growing.....spade and glitter ball... and heels... will update list nearer the time, cos am watching events spiral out of control here... ::) ;) And Aiken, yes, you jammy *%$**% .... ;D ;D ;D ;) though even more confused now as to why needed help with pic.... ???

though even more confused now as to why needed help with pic.... ???
And again Lottie you took the words out of my mouth ;D
this event you are planning sounds like nothing I've ever been to at my girls school ;D :D :)
Actually Delilah, am quite getting into it! Cornered small man at school and told him what I'd done (head of committee thingy), and he seemed up for it, so hopefully I'll pull it off! Have discovered that if you sound optimistic and confident about something, they tend to go for it.....So I'm showing false confidence and smiling lots!! Am intending it to be grown up barn dance thingy to celebrate getting garden dug.....if you happen to be passing Suffolk way....... bring wellies and heels!! ;D ;D ;D
Hi Anna - looks like you have been thorugh the wringer. I am glad you find some solice on here - you certainly are not the only one, and I hope you carry on doing so. I know that I have found a lot on this site and I consider many of you as being amongst my closest friends.
Shot myself well and truly in the foot today with logging on at work. Went into the chat room at morning break. Logged out at the end of morning break - or so I thought ...
Got home later in the afternoon, couldnt enter the chat room - my name was already being used !!! Asked Dan to help, and meanwhile worked the problem out, so I had to go back to work, log out, then come home !!!
Thanks for you efforts anyway Dan !!!
I feel a right ninny !!!
Derekthefox :D
wardy, computers work better at lower temperatures :P
And Lottie, I work with computers, not photograph albums ! :P
Derek ....."Yes Stanley"..." that another fine mess you"ve gottten us into" 8)
Yes Tulip would you believe I am blushing with embarrassment !!!
Derekthefox :-[
When my son was in nursery he won a Barney book. A big chunky book. I read it to him once and nearly puked. Funnily enough that book disappeared and I thought I had escaped. Unfortunately my daughter came along and so did my evil twisted mother. I said "Oh I'll leave this video here for her to watch when she's at yours Mum." I was beaten up with a chorus of "Aaaw let the Toot take the video home, you cruel heartless poor excuse of a mother...etc etc" It has become her favourite video :'( :( . I have been subjected to "super dee duper" and "zoo zee zoo" for well over a month now :( . I'm sorry if my sobs disturb you in the quiet of the night. :'( :'( I'll try to be strong...but... it's a dinosaur...its purple...it's got to mangey friends...and whats worse...oh the utter horror...I can talk like it! Boo hoo hoo! I'm turning into a big purple monster.
Thank goodness I no longer watch television. I could have ended up like that too ! ;D
Derekthefox ;D
There, there Heidi. Go for a lie down in a darkened room with damp flannel on head ;D
Oh dear DtF and Heldi, think you both need some tlc, .......in a sad kinda twisted way I just love it when somewhen else make silly mistakes with computers it makes me feel not so bad when I can't even post a piccy, sorry Derek ;)
Oh and Heldi what can I say except....give it time .......the purple monster thing will pass............soon..............maybe............but in the meantime turn to us for solice and help..we're there for you in your hour of need!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read a story once that someone punched Barneys lights out, and I found myself laughing hysterically! ;D
DP lol! If only you could recount that story to save this tortured soul!
It is the cloying unctous over done emphasis on smiley happy manners and loving everybody which forces me to join Heidi on the anti Barney rant. I am far too mean a mummy to let mine watch it.
Shot gun is too good - too fast. Can I also suggest the squeaky ones out of story makers, and the new tikkabilla presenters?
Quoteand the new tikkabilla presenters?
But not Paul. He's a dude. And all of the Wiggles should be saved, with the possible exception of Captain Feathersword...
I would support the incarceration of most CBeebies presenters, especially Chris.
mmm, Paul is lovely and cheers up many 6.30am's for me, but check him out on the Song Catchers. His hair makes a world of a difference! We like Simon too, but Justin and Sarah Jane could do with a good slap.
I can now see why my Dad used to insist on us watching Playschool for Floella (can't spell it) Benjamin.....
I can't get any attention from my better half when Paul's on!! I'd forgotton about Sarah-Jane. She's the pits. Justin was thinner, but still irritating, on Fun Song Factory...
I am soo glad I nolonger have to watch the Fun Song Factory!! Loved it at the begininng, but by child no 4, the strain was beginning to tell, and I was beginning to shout the lyrics in a slightly hysterical manner rather than singing along.....
Fortunately baby Laurie dismantled the offending video cassette the other week ;)
I remember ours pushing a jam butty into the video player once ...
Derekthefox :D
Our youngest fed poo into the gas fire and we did not know until we turned it on - we soon found out and it is amazing how the smell lingers :-X
Ha ha ha Redclanger, that is so gross, but it appeals to my sense of humour !!!
Derekthefox ;D
Excuse me, but Barney is nothing....compared to the Cushion Kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o
At least now they are older they love Spongebob and Jimmy Nuetron. That I can cope with.
Number one son put bread and golden syrup into our video player, and daughter put a rubber into our fire.....pheweeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I love Sponge Bob!!! It's about the only thing I can cope with!
And Ady...eeeeeuuuuuuuu :P
