Has anyone seen fresh hazelnuts for sale? Or harvested a crop? My greengrocer told me there aren't any this year ???
I had some - save about 1/2 dozen from the squirrel!
Yup, well I don't have nay, but a little shop in town does. Grab Greengrocer and shake hard, til he tells you where he's hidden them.... ;D ;)
Take a walk and look in the hedgerows - you'll be surprised how many hazels you find!
I remember when I was young we used to play in woods and always enjoyed finding the hazels - free food !!! Alas most of the wooded areas around Coventry have been cleared for building ... there is a little bit of wild ground next to our allotments, I will have to explore there ...
Derekthefox :D
Our trees haven't produced any - but then again we coppiced them last year.

tell me more...
I'm in West London, so not near Epping Forest. I haven't seen any hazels round here, though plenty of wild blackberries, damsons and even some apple trees in the park. Perhaps in Ruislip wood... Last year Sainsbury's had fresh nuts. I roasted them and made hazelnut and cinnamon biscotti. Yummmm!
