Title: weeding the onions
Post by: joniandmoss on December 05, 2005, 15:29:27
hi again...i dont post often, amd from my question you'll know we are failry new to all this, being its our first year . I have been weeding the onions and would like to know if it is harmful to push them back in if I accidentally pull them out. This happens a bit since we havene t been at the site for a few weeks and the weather is still relatively mild down here and so weeds are still growin. Also should I push the soil up around them and cover the bulb or not , again this is because some appear dislodged. Ta !

Birds and frost cause them to come up.  I pop them back in.  Titchmarsh used to bury his so the pigeons couldn't keep pulling them up so that's what I've done this time as it was really cold and I thought the covering of soil might keep them a bit warmer :)

If you push them in the roots push them out again.  Dib a hole to avoid this.
