Aren't the bullfinches just gorgeous!!!  I had 8 visit in the late spring and they ate all the buds from the Pyracanthia, so no berries for the other birds this winter, but it was worth it.
Goldfinches are so pretty as well.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I want your garden - Goldfinches were my favourite bird as a kid.  Now I don't have favourites.  I just love birds - even the ones that are a pain in the donkey.  Trouble is I don't get them like you do - the bullfinches are superb and he is one handsome resident blackie.

If you want Goldfinch's but not have to keep filling a feeder up then sink a
bucket with Teasel planted in it....when the teasel seeds they will pick at it
for hours on end  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I saw Bullfinches for the first (and as yet only) time back in june. It was in the evening i was siting on the bench I have at the top of the garden. Two of them landed on my runner bean frame and the angle of the sun highlighted ther red plumage brilliantly. Didnt know what they were at the time but on looking it up in a bird book found they were bullfinches.

Never saw them again though :'(

At present i have a 'family' of chaffinches visiting the garden on a regular basis (almost daily and a the same time each day nearly). They come down on the lawn for the food we put down for them. lost track of how many but there are a couple of males and a load of females (which being less brightly coloured are harder to distinguish from sparrows).

OH Happy Day!!!  Had a pair of Bullfinches this morning.  They are beautiful birds, their colours are so striking.  I couldn't get on with my 'work' for watching out for them.  Not close enough for my camera but hopefully they will be around when OH has his telephoto lens on.
