Has anyone every harvested their potatoes after 4-6 weeks?
Someone told me she has been doing that for a while & needs to plant more!!
I dug deep yesterday for my potatoes after the same amount of time & didn't fine any.
What's happening?

Hey Anna!
I didn't think that a potato plat could establish itself, and produce tubers in such a short time. My Dad's always took a lot longer, even for the New ones.
Does this person have land next to the Nuclear Power plant?

Hi Anna, i dug the last of mine a few day's before the snow, not to big about the size of an egg. But nice eating, i put them in about end of august
I thought the fastest tubers would take about 12 weeks, there are some learned people on here who will have precise data ...
At 4-6 weeks, I think that is known as a fisherman's (or fisherwoman's) tale ... a case of slight exaggeration :)

Over here the fastes is supposed to be Rocket and that crops at approximately 12 weeks. I suppose there might be a few diddies at 4-6 weeks but not enough to bother. But then again that might be why she has to keep sowing.

Our first earlies go in end March & give some small ones by early June.

Did you notice any bright white rhizomes (as opposed to the dusky roots)? If you didn't see these then your potatoes are not nearing maturity yet. If you did, or can check again, see if the rhizome tip is curling back on itself as this is a precursor to the tuber forming.
Perhaps your acquaintance had been harvesting potato wine?
I put old shop bought ones in in early June to late July and have managed to get small baby spuds for winter stews. It saves throwing the sprouted shop bought ones away and helps with soil cultivation :)
