brrrr. but what a beautiful morning!
We've had the frost proper frost this week and this morning's was definitely the frostiest! The garden looked beautiful - all covered in a layer of white shiney stuff.
My nasturtiums (which I'd left running rampant out of the bean bed) are finally giving up the ghost. They were all limp this morning so I reckon I'll be digging them up tomorrow.
I'm very glad I fleeced (well actually double thickness net curtain-ed) my pot of potatoes earlier in the week. Should I be taking the fleece off during the day? (Although if I do, I won't be home in time to cover them again before dark!)
And my Christmas Cactus has buds on it. Winter is well on it's way! ;D
(all this sun has gone to Aqui's head!)
My Christmas Cactus is also in full bloom. I have another one in a cold porch, which I shall bring out when this one has finished flowering.

Mines not doing a thing! Probably needs a good feed and talking to! ;D
I had totally neglected my Christmas Cactus and left them in a cool porch. Perhaps the occasional watering and they always give their best. I wish I had a digital camera to take a photo. Just imagine large plant with 24 deep pink flowers.

Everything was white here this morning, and the grass still frosted well into this afternoon....pretty, but bbbrrrrrr!
According to the car thermometer, it was -1 when I took the kids to school, and just made it to 0 as mum and I headed out to the craft centre and Moulsham Mill in Chelmsford. BBBRRR! After a lovely morning with mum, we came home, had a spot of lunch, then picked the medlars from the tree. Have a huge bowl full so medlar jelly will be on the menu once the fruits start to over ripen. ;D
its certainly gone cold hasnt it? I dont know if its just a shock to the system because it has been so mild but to me it feels more like winter than autumn. Geting winterlike temperatures too -4c and below two nights running now. Here in Dorset we are used to getting such temperatires in the colder spells of winter, but not in autumn. Whats going on?
Is this the start of the predicted 'long hard winter'? I hope not!
I do hope that it is Richard, 'bout time we had a decent winter here in North Wales instead of rain, rain , rain, precipitation, drizzle ............oh and more rain. ;)
Is absolutely freezing here in deepest darkest Suffolk! But beautiful! Love winter as long as it's really cold and crisp, can't stand it when it's grey cloudy and eeuuuu! Daughter and I watched the thermometre plummet last night, we really need to get out more...! ::) ;D ;) Am wrapping up and heading out!!!
Lottie ;D
Another crystal clear crisp frosty morning. Agree with you Mimi, will be happy with a long cold winter, can do without the damp, drizzle, rainy, eeuugghh weather! The sun is so bright...I am having trouble seeing my 'puter screen!
Taking mother to do the last of her Chrissy shopping today, then on for lunch in Chelmsford. And tonight, she is babysitting and my darling and I are getting our best bib and tuckers on and are going out on the tiles! Look out Chelmsford! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I don't recall such a long, well forecasted, sub-zero spell in November?
Just look at last night's readings. And remember we're 650' up!!
Warwickshire -6 °c
West Sussex -6 °c
Shropshire -6 °c
East Sussex -6 °c
West Midlands -6 °c
Kent     -6 °c
Worcestershire -6 °c
Wiltshire  -5 °c
Devon        -4 °c
Strathclyde -4 °c
(those were all in a straight line when posted!)
My celeriac will be a gonner?
True Tim, but as others have already commented, this is at least cheerful weather, rather than the dull gloom we often get at this time of year ...
Derekthefox :D
Dont get me wrong I hated all that wet and windy weather a while back. Being 'confined to barracks' while the garden was getting drowned was not fun. I am the first to cheer when the sun comes out.
No i just worry a little about some of my plants when its this cold and frosty. Even some of the more hardy ones are looking bit sorry for themselves. I suppose with the local climate being generaly mild, a cold snap comes as a shock even to them. Mild weather has kept them growing, so when the weather changes suddenly they are not as prepared for it. A bit like me really!
