Title: Runner beans- can you eat the actual bean?
Post by: marmite66 on November 16, 2005, 21:43:07
Have finally cleared my runner beans. Have collected beans to sow next year. They look like kidney beans. Can you eat them? (I have millions)

Yes, but soak them overnight first or you'll be boiling them for hours...

And do not add any salt when cooking as this makes the skins go tough.

They are very tasty though. Look for recipies such as :

Great for a cold winters day.

OOOH I asked that on the basic spot. I thought just the same as I was putting them on the compost. Let me know how you get on with them! I am really interested.

I've tried them.  They're really good.  Change the water several times while soaking them.  This is supposed to make them less....er...windy!!
