Did I hear the news correctly that Lambeth, London don't like the idea of 'Christmas' lights?
A friend of mine here, a long time Western Moslum, thinks it's hilarious that we pamper to beliefs that are alien to our historical ones. He keeps joking that we're handing over Britain to anyone who wants it!
He asked me what I'd think if his leaders in Morrocco tried to call Ramadan anything other than Ramadan. He knows there is never a chance of even thinking such a thing.
He thinks we're all either frightened or going soft, he has a point!
Its a strange mixed up country we live in ::)
Hi Ken,your friend is so right, i know of different cultures who love to see all the Christmas trimmings and the lights , specially go to London this time of year.
I think we are giving our beloved country away its the political way to go to say yes to everything, but other cultures do not ask for Christmas to be changed for them, its these crazy bl**dy councils they cause so much aggravation which then leads to unpleasantness among folk of different religions.
AND a pupil got reprimanded for putting "God save the Queen" on the front of his exercise book in case it offended some of the other pupils.
I think if I lived in Lambeth I'd be well and truly decorating the outside of my house this Christmas.
Chuckle! Some people are absolutely nutty when it comes to decorating their houses aren't they. There's a couple of houses around here who seem to be in competiton with each other. They haven't lit up yet but I'll bet it won't be long.
I put some small twinklies on the fir tree outside and one strip of lights over the garage and front door. I was bought a rudolph and sleigh last year so that got put on top of the shed. It's like a blinking beacon it's that bright. Still the kids love it.
On the main road from Marlborough to Swindon there's a row of houses that must overload the national grid over the Christmas period. At least they all agree I suppose!
Does anyone watch Jamie Oliver in Italy? There's a lesson for being proud of what/who/where you are. Why do politicians and political correctness officials in our country tell us differerent?
Bah, humbug!
CL-on-a-rant xx
My sister lives in Streatham and Lambeth is their council, and she says people are so angry about this. No direspect to other religions but we do live in a Christian country, I believe. It is mad beyond belief. We will have our Christmas lights on at the beginning of December. We have the icicle lights stretched across the front of our house and a little bush lit up and I have a big lit up Santa at the side of the front door. Above the front door we have a slightly flashing "Merry Christmas", thats not too much is it? ??? ;D busy_lizzie
Things like this make my blood boil and the thing is, we as a nation get walked all over and do nothing about it. If I lived in Lambeth hell would freeze over before I took any notice of somebody telling me I couldn't do Christmas EXACTLY as I wanted it.
At the end of the day it isn't against the law to celebrate it, put your lights up, call it Christmas, sing the carols, eat the turkey etc etc., so why take notice of anybody saying otherwise? People only have themselves to blame for taking notice. Same with hanging up the flag etc. People who disagree with it can stick it where the sun doesn't shine :)

Nothing personal against singers from Zimbabwe but what's is all about ???
If they were from Zimbabwe they were almost certainly Christians, so what's wrong with that? Seems quite appropriate to have everyone joining in. But I agree, stuff like 'winter festival' goes far too far. Fortunately there isn't as much of it as some papers would have us believe.
Yellow Petals. Agree 100% and as you say in your Avataar "Never Forget".. I often wonder what my old Dad thinks when he is looking down on this country of ours..
Having said that I suppose we are all at fault most of the time for putting up with the ridiculous ideas set out by Councils/Goverments etc.. There will always be an England... I HOPE.
Obviously the local councils do not realise that what they are actually doing is widening the ethnic divide and creating an excuse for the far right to justify their beliefs and principles. All this does is trigger anger and another excuse to target the different cultures within our society.
I think that you might be right Lorna, that we are at fault for putting up with it.
I'm lost for words ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

My nan lives in Clapham so Lambeth is her council......bet she will be dissapointed as there is normally a big Christmas tree on the corner where the busses turn and she looks down onto that from her flat!
Oh, jingle bells...jingle bells.....
Our son's school have a new policy this year they cannot give christmas cards out to other pupils ! but thay can give happy winter cards instead !!!!!
Insane >:(
Travman. Not only insane but I consider that a bl***y cheek. How dare they dictate to children what they can do. I just hope my Grandson or Grand daughters do not get that idea from their schools. There will be one irate Grand Mother at each school.
I am not racist but as another member said a lot of this unpleasantness is caused by the powers that be.

I know where I'd stick that too! Let your son send Christmas cards to whomever he wants to! No child of mine would ever be told they couldn't give out a Christmas card to a friend in school.
Talk to your local rag, shame the school for it's lunacy.
I have the flu. I'm not in a very good mood >:( (my opinion wouldn't differ though!)
YP Hope you soon feel better. Lorna
Marky b - we all have our own opinions and its good to express them, don't be sorry for how you feel, wouldn't it be dull if we all had the same beliefs :)
Just got an e-mail from my sister who lives in Streatham, and this is part of it.
" When we came out of the cinema they had just switched on the 'Winter' Lights. I found it quite upsetting, actually, as it was so politically correct. No Christmas tree this year, just lights in a tree that happened to be there. The choir were singing non Christian songs, like The Twelve Days of Christmas, and there was nothing to indicate it was Christmas. The Mayor was there and all the Councillors and I wanted (though didn't for some reason) to ask why there was no Christmas tree. It seemed so sad that the council are denying it this year - so stupid. No other religion would do it".
So whatever the web site is saying this is what is happening in Streatham, and people are not pleased about it. busy_lizzie
I hate being wished a happy holiday in December. I try and say, thanks luv, but I take me holidays in June,July or August.
i'm not christian but i celebrate christmas.
actually, i'll celebrate anything if i'm in the right mood!
if we in this country are so 'multi cultural' and (even if we never wanted to be), then why can't we just accept ALL festivals as a bloomin good excuse for a party?
don't change it's name,
don't confine it to followers of one faith,
lay on food and dancing, welcome all comers and enjoy!
happy CHRISTMAS, happy HONEKA (excuse spelling) happy NEW YEAR

And for goodness sake put all your ornamental pig's & piggy banks out of sight, they offend too??? :(

Does that mean we all fast for Ramadan? My wife's Muslim, my daughter had a piggy bank at one point, and no palaver. That's where it all gets silly, where people start going on about 'offence' which isn't there. Who objects to Christmas, for instance? Muslims revere Jesus, Hindus, Bhuddists and Sikhs have no problem, Jews don't believe in him but they're pretty tolerant. So where's the offence?
I don't think anyone is generalizing here. But it does seem that the minority "squeaky wheel" gets the oil when it comes to religious custom's?
Methinks goaded by political votes. :(
I for one agree with you all it's all down to the mad mad council's with the backing of the goverment. GOD save CHRISTMAS.
they did it near me last year. they didnt put merry xmas banner light type things up because it may offend the asian community.
This might be wortha look, but have your sound off if in the office!
