But, at 6am, the sky was worth it.

Only just getting your jumpers out? Us young 'ens must be far too soft these days.

Been wearing my hat and scarf for a couple of weeks. Got my gloves out this morning. We had roofs like that this morning. beautiful! (first frost of this end of the year) and of course the heating's broken at work. brr.

Yes, I switched my central heating on a couple of days ago, and wore a hat and gloves when walking to work this morning. It finally feels seasonal.

Gloves etc? The pictures were taken in my night-wear - T shirt & boxers. I always go out early to check on things, or go to the freezer.

But yes - I shall have to lay the all-day stove very soon. But I SO hate doing the ashes every day that I leave it as late as possible!!

Yesterday was the first time on the allotment that I've needed any more on top than a t-shirt. It actually felt like autumn rather than late summer - quite nice really. Still only the barest minimum of heating on at home though... wonder if we'll get the really cold winter that keeps being forecast?

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Big rush this morning as I needed to scrape the frost off the car before I could take the kids to school, then straight on to the allotment where finally my snips, sprouts and kale have had the frost they need to make them sweet as can be!  Mind you, unusual for this part of Essex, the ground was so frosty I couldn't get the fork into the ground until the same came around the trees!  brrrr.  Still in a t-shirt though, with a thermal vest on underneath!  My feet froze, even with 2 pairs of socks and proper boots on...they are still cold....about to get into a hot bath!

I've had the heating on for a couple of weeks! Got two jumpers on right now.  It's very nippy here. Now I'm supposed to be a hard Northerner and call all you Southerners soft am I not? My only explanation could be that I was born in Kingston upon Thames so I'm not a thoroughbred Northerner. Those first  6 months of my life must have had a huge bearing on me?  :)

Had a light frost this morning, so have wrestled my cannas and other tenders into the G'house today.
Thermal undies at the ready for work tomorrow, and yes our heating has gone up a notch! ;D

No frost here yet, but then we are on the coast.  There is a definite drop in temperature though and I have started wearing tights again, which I hate.  We have just turned the heating on at home.  Was at the lottie today and although it was very windy, once I got going didn't feel the cold at all.  Lovely pics, Heldi and Tim.  I love reindeers! Have just written my Christmas book out for my preps, have ordered a Northumbrian free range chicken for Christmas and will make my cake on Sunday, so I feel I have made a start. :) busy_lizzie

Tim I like your Elk. Is it sticking it's tongue out?  Your decorated reindeer is cute but not as cute as these little fellows. Six months old.  All together now..."Aaaaawwww!"   Apparently their coats are really very soft to touch. I didn't get the chance to stroke one but my son did. He had one adopted for him by his Grandma last Christmas.

I wished I had taken some more pictures of Holly the Eagle Owl. She wasn't too impressed with being tethered and was very restless. I saw the extent of her 2 metre wingspan Tim when she was jiggling about. I was definately impressed by her. She was beautiful.  I didn't want to upset her by poking my camera at her. Mind you, she was sitting right next to a "bunny village" so maybe that had something to do with it.  Dinner just over the fence?

He didn't mean it rudely, Heldi - have another look?

Love your furry ones.

Oh he's finished blowing a raspberry then?!  If I had thought on, I could have blown one back like this   :P  !

Is it just me or does this Snowy Owl look like it is laughing?

Speaking of Reindeer - I may have shown this before, but it's topical?

The one given to us when we left Russia in 1941 - brought back in the sub HMS Seawolf - I think. And then to the Edinburgh zoo.

Carol yes it is an eagle owl. I laughing at what Tim said  ;D . Did you take that picture in Northumberland? Wondering if it came from the same place the one I saw did?

Wardy ,I didn't think we had eagle owls in Northumberland ! Would be nice to think that we could have. I've made my mind up that they are my favourite bird of prey. Tough decision but the eyes have won me over...and ofcourse I keep thinking of Owl from Winnie the Pooh!

Tim,what a lovely looking animal. Wonder where it's descendants are? Would be nice to know.

The few reindeer we saw last weekend were on their Christmas tour. They come from the Cairngorms and are the only "wild " herd in Britain.  Those young ones had only been brought down from the hills a fortnight before to be put on the halter. They are so docile. Lovely creatures.  They were due to go home on Sunday but will be touring again during December.  If anyone is interested...

I know my son was very pleased to have a reindeer adopted for him for Christmas. I was pleased because it didn't break within five minutes and I didn't have to tidy it away !

Too many kippers? - never - freeze them.

Reindeer? Would you want freedom of Murmansk?? Much as I love the people.

Found this.

During World War II, Murmansk was a link with the Western world for Russia, and a vast commerce with the Allies, in items important to the respective military efforts passed through it: primarily manufactured goods into the Soviet Union, and raw materials and reindeer out. These supplies were brought to the city in the Arctic Convoys.

Haven't fiddled with it ..honest!

Hey folks, I've just watched a trailer for a programme tonight. It's all about the come back of the eagle owl to Britain.  Is that not amazing timing!  Wardy, looks like you were on to something !

Yes. You might appear on it. There may have been covert cameras in seahouses that weekend.
