Post by: chriszog on November 12, 2005, 19:17:49
Hi
Having cut down the asparagus 3 weeks ago in preparation for the move it has started to shoot again see photo after dug it up

Will this affect the move and what does anyone suggest to do with the new shoots? If it survives.

Chris,  the link isn't working....but I would suggest that you let it be and allow it to leaf up then simply cut it back again once it yellows off in the frost.

or just move them the way they are. by the way i´d be interested to know if that works- transplanting older asparagus crowns. where i am you only ever see one year old crowns for sale, which means : waiting another two years for  the first crop.
i wonder why they never sell older crowns which ideally should  bear straight away.
so please  let me know  how you fare.

Crikey,  thats a great job you've done on the plot Chris!   I was soooooooooo lucky with both my patches in that both had been well cultivated and had very few weeds.  The previous tenant even deweeded the second one for me before giving it up!
