Fellow Allotmenteers...
My Local Council would like to turn some of our allotments into a cycleway.
The Allotments have been there for over 100 years.
At the same time it is being overlooked that some plots are actively being used by businesses or as a business?
Does this sound like a plan to you? Have you got any suggestions? Should you trust the council?

Ooooooooo...they are naughty using cycling as an excuse! They need to sort out evil motorists not pave more areas! Cars do not own roads they are for cyclists etc too....Sorry, was in Amsterdam last week, where cyclists etc are treated with respect, got back here and realised all over again that we are merely targets in this country. Sorry. That didn't really help, but it makes me really angry. >:(
I think you will find that if the Council want it they will get it no matter who it upsets,

I second that (e)motion.
wardy - we could have done with a few like you in the squadron!!
That is shocking Pippin. I feel very suspicious of Councils wanting to take allotment land, for whatever reason. I would go along with Wardy's suggestions. Don't give in without a fight. Good luck. busy_lizzie
How could they use the whle site for a cycleway? they're normally only a few feet wide, and I don't use them anyway. I feel safer on the road.
Thanks everyone. Your support and advice has been so helpful. I'm off to bang some heads together.

Is a cycle way a sort of practice roundabout? Jumped up excuse! How DARE they suggest that an allotment should go because of cyclists.....sorry, getting more angry about it....prob find that cyclist groups would support you if push came to shove. ::)
Wardy is absolutely right...I have had a couple of goes with our local Council over the years (one is ongoing) and (as Wardy has discovered) the secret is to use their own rules against them
