Title: Orchid Compost

Can anyone help with info as to making your own orchid compost ?  any advice appreciated plus any growing tips too :)

I think it, and this is a huge think, is fairly woody, not soil like at all, and for some reason has charcoal in it? But I cheat and buy mine, it's not very expensive and lasts for ever as I rarely pot mine on.

i have a orchid that someone gave me , and is really pot bound the roots are growing out the pot , don't even like the plant much , have neglected it did flower cut the flower stem back by half and is sending up new shoot , so perhaps i should just go on neglecting it  :) :)
