Title: The worst thing about HOT weather ...
Post by: Admin Dan on July 14, 2003, 00:29:57
It's got to be .....

the watering can

Feel like you should be down at the allotment every other hour watering the poor plants.

Still the barbeques are good fun 8)

Ah but watering can be fun - best device I've ever seen is a kid's toy.

It's like an orange plastic rocket, which sits on a hose attachment.  Turn on the hose, and a jet of water goes up inside the rocket, which rises up in the air on top of the jet - and spraying water evenly around.  Adjust the jet for any height up to 10 or 15 feet!

You'll have kids queuing up to do your watering for you!

I got mine in the toy section of Kwiksave

What - your allowed a hose on the allotment ?

Now that would be nice - I have to make do with a watering can (should buy another really).

Your dooby does sound fun though !

I was talking to a guy who grows competition quality vegetables the other week and he reckoned he never had to water, as he relied onm the plants to send down decent size tap roots which in turn encourages their growth.  I have to say the mans vegetable patch was amazing.  Onions the size of mangos, peas that loked incredible.   The only things which seemed to be suffering were his carrots.

Has anyone else tried not watering their patch to see how it does?  I'm tempted to try but there's always the chance you kill off all your crop.

I use a hose when I can and do not recommend not watering unless you have really good soil and use mulch. I have been away for 4 weeks - hol and business and my plot has been devastated by the lack of water. main crop potatoes have failed and bean are all stringy, other crops not doing at all well. Only plants thriving are the weeds!!  :(
