Title: Rotavator
Post by: markfield rover on November 04, 2005, 07:28:54
Dear MT. just saw your pride and joy rotavator, having only last week purchased  exactly the same
2nd hand.  I'm thinking of adding a small trailer in order for me and the wife to motor down to the looty
on a Sunday morn (distance 1/2 mile) wakeing all residents up also looking for a plough attachment
that might have been an additional extra for the machine !  Have you done any of this ? Also a fellow
lotty holder chastised us for rotavating ground on a new lotty ( been under carpets for 8 yrs !) because
it would flatten the ground, any tips ? PS my wife won't let me keep my machine in the bedroom ( short
on space !) do you think she is being unreasonable.

Any one else with same machine ? They don't build em like they used to !

Hi M.R.

I wonder how easy it would be to put one through an MOT, or how much road tax would cost? It's a nice thought.

I have always rotavated my plots, it's the only way I can cope with turning all that soil by myself, I've never had any problems, I even rotavate the Couch Grass in, it gives up eventually, though I do remove Docks by hand.

I think your wife is being very unreasonable with the parking in the bedroom thing, after all they are lovely old machines, on the other hand, if I managed to get mine upstairs I'd probably need an operation & would be unable to do much else in the bedroom department, maybe she has a point. Of course you could tell her it's for hanging your clothes on???

My wife is very good really, she sits patiently in the van while I'm driving to God-forsaken places in search of bits & pieces for the rotavator (shaking her head in despair sometimes I think)

I thought you might be interested in these pictures from an old sales brochure I have, the accessories look like what you're after.

Good luck with your machine, Andy (AKA Merry Tiller)

Hi M.R.,
Glad you joined the M.T. Club!
I love these machines, I now have 7 in various stages of restoration.
A whole bunch of attachments were sold on ebay yesterday.
I have seen the trailer parts etc. in the past being sold. Many pieces are becoming rare & difficult to find but patience & some spare cash comes in handy.
Any engine questions interest me, particularly Briggs & Statton.

Thanks Telboy, I was looking at e-bay Friday at various machines but didn't see any spares, I hope to one
day have one with headlight in the front so Mrs Rover can carry on into the night when time presses !
Luckily see's distracted and hasn't seen that last comment. By the way, a question, when I went to the local
machine/mower man he tried to persuade me into considering having the motor converted to lead free, not
worth it ?
PS I hope to get a photo of me and said technology posted asap.
PPS Many thanks Merry Tiller for the photos, they are destined for the boudoir,
same hue & colour as the pink flock paper that adorns the room, there's lucky !

Lead free? I run mine on unleaded, they are very low compression engines

I have just added some lead replacement additive, seems to work fine, waiting for a fine day to have another go !
