Title: We've got a lotta.............
Post by: Mimi on November 02, 2005, 10:04:08
Sawdust..................Other half has been doing a lot of woodwork recently and has about 3 large binbags of sawdust.  It seems such  a waste to just bin it.  Is it possible to add it to the compost heap  ???

Depends whether the wood was treated or glued in any way. I'd avoid sawdust from pressure treated timber and from MDF (contains glues). Standard untreated timber should be fine.

The sawdust is from untreated American pine.  No glue just wood.  ;D

Mix it up with your grass cuttings, rather than just piling it on top. It will actually help the grass rot down properly by adding carbon to the mixture. Best not spread raw on the garden as it can take nitrogen out of the soil as it decomposes.
