As we're approaching the bedding down for the winter digging sessions, I thought I'd ask what the most unusual or interesting things are that everyone's found on their plot.
Two years back we turned up a 1699 William II halfpenny. I think that our plots were part of the grounds of a grand house (Bury Lodge) at that time, but haven't been able to find proof.
(Oz has to swear he was compos mentis when he found his contribution!)
Our site was originally gifted by the local reverend to 'the poor of the parish', so I've never found any coin of the realm. :'(
Plenty of bits of clay pipes, though....and the modern day comparison - disposable lighters!
