Title: Help with preserving Globe Artichokes?
Post by: EmmaLou on October 27, 2005, 20:10:57
This question came up in our Allotment Association Newsletter:
Does anyone have a recipe for how to preserve Artichoke hearts in oil and vinegar like the Italians do?

I would also be interested in finding out how to do this. When I was in Italy I ate loads and absolutely love them!

Hi Emma Lou,

try

or

Did you grow artichokes this year? If so, how many did you get per plant ? I've got some growing in my garden but no flowers this year (first year, grown from seed) so I'm hoping for success next year....

I grew one plant - It was thrown in for free when I bought some other stuff on a plant stall. Not knowing what to do with it, I planted it right next to my greenhouse at home. Not very clever - never realised how big they grow! Had to cut off some leaves so I could get through the greenhouse door!  ;D

It has managed to grow three flowers, but they are absolutely infested with blackfly that I just can't get rid of. Oh well the ants seem to be making the most of it!

Next year I am hoping to grow them on my allotment, although will probably only be able to fit in a couple of plants.

Thanks for the web links! Have you tried these methods?
