Hello,
Has anyone on here ever grown Leaf Amaranth? It sounds interesting. But I wonder will it grow in the North?
    Many thanks Sue :)
Hi Suru,
I have not heard o f this - what is it ?
Debs
I saw red amaranth growing in the HDRA gardens in coventry & it is a very attractive plant & apparently needs very little care.
Hi Debs,
I read about it in The Real Seed catalogue. They say its easy to grow and a good spinach substitute. But when I googled it mentions that its a Caribbean veg and likes warm and wet conditions,so I'm not sure how it will take to Leeds!
However, having read on here that someone has seen the Red variety and that it is easy to grow I might go mad and buy a packet ;D!
      Best wishes Sue
Hi Sue and Debs,
I tried growing mixed amaranth from The Real Seed catalogue and they grew like weeds. We are pretty far north and the plants took a while to get growing but they are now massive.
I haven't tried the leaves though as I read somewhere on this board they might not be too good for you (depending on strain etc). Still I might give it a whirl.
Anyway, yes, they grow really well in the North and seem to love the damp weather...
Good luck!
Truff
Many thanks to you all for your replies.I shall definitely splash out
on a packet! If they love the damp, they'd love it here this week!!! ;)
       All the best Sue
