Title: Help needed on mobile phone usage !
Post by: Derekthefox on October 23, 2005, 14:28:35
I am a total dork when it comes to mobile phones ... I have a cheap pay as you go phone on T-mobile, but cannot work out how to send a text to a friend who has travelled abroad ...

I have tried changing their number to the correct country code, eg for Australia inserting 0066 and deleting the first zero ... but have not received confirmation that my texts have been received. They are on the same network, but the T-mobile website is useless ... or perhaps it is just me ... Am I getting it wrong here?

Can anyone help, or do I just forget trying ...

Thanks

Have you tried it without changing anything - our just worked between France and UK with no messing.

If you are texting a UK mobile phone, the country code is +44 and then the number with no leading zero. Are you sure that your friend can receive texts overseas or that their phone is switched on? They may not be enabled for international roaming. What happens when you dial the number?

Sorry - been out sweeping up leaves.

I would assume so Derek - just had a look at mine and it does not prefix numbers in address book - do not know whether it does when sent or not.  Bit of a mobile phone amateur myself on the grounds that I have always been a bit phone phobic - another reason for giving up on previous career.

I was texting my friend as he travelled around the world this summer, with no changes.

You don't need to alter anything.  Text him as if he were in the house next door.

I don't know about texts, but if you phone someone who is out of the country they pay for the call not you.

Sometimes they charge both phones, and some companies charge way over the top for overseas calls. Check with T-mobile.

T-mobile text rates are fixed at 20p for SMS, anywhere in the world. I don't think the receiver gets charged again.
