Title: Fruit Bushes @ Lidl
Post by: JohnnyLarge on October 21, 2005, 12:09:41
After reading on here that Lidl have an offer on for fruit bushes @ £1.79 I went and bought some.
I bought 4 raspberry, 3 blackberry, 2 blueberry, 2 gooseberry and 1 redcurrant.
They are not labelled with the variety and come in cardboard boxes with the root wrapped in a bag containing soil and feed.
They seem to be of good quality and I planted them yesterday. I'll let you know how they get on, but I would like to know what varieties they are.

no idea!
i bought fruit bushes last spring from morrisons, in the same kind of packaging. didnt even know if the raspberries were going to be summer or autumn ones!
have found that i have summer rasps (variety unknown), red gooseberries (hurray!) and no show on the red currant so far - next year, eh?

I bought some like you mention last year.  I wasn't expecting a crop but I got enough blackcurrants to make two pots of jelly - my neighbour made it for me!  I also got a few goosegogs, red currants and some rasps.

Nothing from the whitecurrants.  For the price I thought they were excellent.  It's just great walking to a bit of the garden and seeing something else you can pick and nibble on during some hard work.  I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to tuck in...

Aldi do fruit bushes for 99p from time to time, and 2 yr old maiden fruit trees for £3.99! Named varieties & well packaged with pictures, growing instructions etc. I was deeply sceptical, but bought a few as an experiment. Both the plants and trees were vigorous and healthy and most of the fruit bushes fruited in the first year (tayberries, raspberries (2 varieties), blackcurrants, gooseberries).

Update!
All the plants are doing fine.
One of the gooseberries has little buds of leaves growing already!
I'll try and post a picture. I'm really surprised it's taken so well.
