I am planning to put a patch on the plot to one side and grow a load of beans and peas etc. For my seed the following season. They wil get plenty of food and water so should produce big strong healthy seed for the following season. Has anyone ever tried this?

Nope- I just leave a few plants to mature an collect from those. Even nicked bean seed off the compost heap one year and that has kept me going since.
I grow a lot of Berlotti and keep the beans for the following year ( the ones I dont use for fishing) works a treat if youve got the space give it a go.

You're kidding right? Borlotti beans as bait? I've just got to tell my friends on a Carolina Skiffs forum. What do you catch with them?
Many of the peas available nowadays are F1 hybrids. You may want to take this into account when choosing varieties to save seed from.
Thats a good point John_Miller thanks.

Ive caught loads of carp on them. They also eat various seeds including hemp and groats, and are especially keen on peanuts.

@chriszog
very slightly ot, but i have to know:
do you use the beans as ground- or as hookbait?
i suppose you parboil them first?
the river where i´m fishing holds quite a few big wild carp. but they are notoriously
difficult to catch. as nobody evr uses beans around here, that might be a way...

Have P.M.d you as I'm sure people don't want this to turn into a fishing thread. But yes, yes and sometimes?
