....I see this Yew tree in the cemetery....It is huge, never seen a tree so big! Makes me wonder what it must have seen over the centuries. There is a mass grave of soldiers from the Napoleonic wars here and sad ones of Mum's and babies, is an awe-inspiring place, with the most beautiful tree I know. Makes you feel like a blip in history!! Lottie
Allways been my favourite tree Lottie, must be the pagan Scot in me {:¬)
This is the oldest one, though I've seen a better pic somewhere ..

Our Colonial cousins in the dear old U.S. of A. reckon they have the oldest tree in the world ... well, they would , wouldn't they ? I think it's called a Bristlecone Pine .. or summat like that .. California if I remember correctly .. however ! I'm willing to put my dendochronologist into the ring with their dendochronologist ... and ... to the victor the spoils {:¬)#
Ooo dear...don't forget the ointment....! :o :o :o ;) Sorry to appear thick, dense whatever, but what is a dentodjgsdfb thingy? Lottie ;D
Somebody who studies the age of trees ... sounds like a ridiculously complicated word for a branch of history .... jeez ! what a beautiful unintentional pun! rolls on the floor laffin' ..... ;D ;D ;D

And that's a magnificent tree!

I've been there. It is amazing, but surrounded by "protection" so no hugging allowed :(
Why not just tree historian or something, or am I simplifying things too much? Not like me I know.. ;D
Not sure, Rob, could be, will ask her when next she serenades me.... ::) ::) ::) ;) may be from her dim and distant past.
Diana, will march up to the one here and give it a big hug for you, but will wait for morning if that OK, in cemetery, is very dark, hooting etc...... :-\ Lottie
Diana, been there myself. Time just seemed to stop when I was standing looking at it. Felt so peaceful. Was thinking that the tree was there before Christianity, before the Renaissance, before the 2 World Wars, before the Space Race. Just stood there in awe. Feeling rather serene now just typing this. {:¬)#
Nothing like trees, especially huge ancient ones. Find them very relaxing and serene.
By the way, found out where "I talk to the trees " song from, is from the Goon Show!! LOL So much for East Anglian mystery... ::) From Spike Milligan, sorry if destroyed image here, Rob...will find some ancient mysterious legend for you... Lottie ;D
I thought it was from "Paint Your Wagon" Lottie ?
Just found it {:¬)#

Well, blow me down!! Have no sound at min, so hard to tell. Is it pic with music? Isn't that a romantic ballad in the film? But not sure Aiken, will interrogate mother under spotlight tomorrow...Lottie
Yep, it's on the soundtrack album of the film , not that I would ever listen to it of course ! Clint Eastwood sings it no less !  {:¬)# ... or is it Lee Marvin .... will go up in the loft L8r
Lyrics:
Song: I Talk To The Trees
I talk to the trees
But they don't listen to me
I talk to the stars
But they never hear me
The breeze hasn't time
To stop, and hear what I say
I talk to them all
In vain
But suddenly, my words
Reach someone elses ear
At someone elses heart
Strings too
I tell you my dreams
And while you're listening to me
I suddenly see them
Come true
I can see us some April night
Looking out across a rollin' farm
Having supper in the candlelight
Walking later, arm in arm
Then I'll tell you
How I pass the day
Thinking mainly how
The night would be
Then I'll try to find
The words to say
All the things you
Mean to me
I tell you my dreams
And while you're
Listening to me
I suddenly see them
Come true
LOL! Aww that lovely, Aiken!! But do you think it could have been Goons/Spike Milligan taking mick? Have no idea, just really curious now!! Mother didn' succumb to spotlight, so will threaten her Hydrangea in menacing manner tomorrow til she spills beans...... ;D ;) Lottie
rofl ....
Have secateurs ready....and practising hard stare.... >:(

LOL!! My turn to grin! Or am I, can't see.........can't touch type though, have to watch every little movement, and still spell wrong.....with spell check too!! Keep hitting ignore cos think there may be a chance I'm right.....self delusion I guess... :-\
I'm actuallly up to 7 fingers now, so by the time I retire I should be able to type "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" < .... while still looking at the keyboard most of the time though {:¬ (
Why, Aiken? Why why why would you want to type that?!? Try "please give me £10,000 or the cabbage gets it?"

That song Aiken kept 1 of the most played songs in the world from
reaching number 1....was joe dolci that sang "shuddappa your face"
he kept ultravox's "vienna" of the number 1 spot...!!!!!!
Old emperor Yew, fantastic sire,
Girt with thy guard of dotard kings
What ages hast thou seen retire
Into the dusk of alien things?
