Title: Help with peas please!
Post by: flowerlady on October 19, 2005, 12:29:00
Hey all,

Need some help again, ... again!

which peas can be sown now to go through the winter,
which ones are better to leave to early spring
and
which ones are best for a main crop?

This is quite a science!!  Your recommendations please.

I think its the smooth peas that you can overwinter, and the wrinkly ones that go in in spring. Not sure about the names of them though, hopefully someone more experienced will be along shortly...

I think they call em early peas.  Do you have a seed catalogue you could refer to? Always a good idea to have a selection as they are just like having your own reference library  :)

1st earlies      Sow Oct-Nov or Jan-Mar for autumn sowing varieties.
The hardy ones which are best for overwintering are according to my book are
round, not classed as wrinkled   - Feltham First and Meteor

Earlies - sow Mar-June  Little Marvel, Jaguar, Hurst Green Shaft, Kelvedon W,

Maincrop - sow Mar - June     Ashton, Ambassador, Rondo, Onward
