Title: Soot
Post by: colleenemp on October 14, 2005, 09:55:30
I have been given bags of soot, I hear it's good for keeping down slugs, is it any good to help improve light clay soil? Will it add anything???? ???

Let it sit in the weather for a few months before you use it, so the rain can wash the poisons out of it. It should help break up the clay, but it won't add nutrients.

ooooops...some bloke advised me to rake some in before putting in onion sets....so like the trusting fool I am I went ahead and put some in in a precious couch grass free bed that has half killed me to prepare...ah well hopefully if it's toxic it will kill any hiding roots from that as well as my poor onions... :P
