Title: chicken shed
Post by: SandraH on October 10, 2005, 21:24:22
Hi all , we're new to alloment keeping and we're planning to keep chickens, about 4 or 5 , but no more than 6. we have a pen area already built , by the previous keeper. Obviously we will need a shed to keep the chickens nice and cosy. how big does the shed need to be and whats required inside it? places for them to lay etc....are there any plans/ diagrams or web sites you can direct us too. Thanks for your help.

Hello, For 6 chooks you'll need 2 nestbox's for them to lay in with plenty of straw in. 4 foot square area for them to feed and water in and a couple of perches for them to roost on. perches want to be 2"bits of wood with sharp edges took off, so your girls don't need there slippers on. What type are you thinking of? RIver cottage is a good website for poultry.
