Can I expect to cut brocoli florets? I cut some today, and new ones are developing, but will they still grow once it turns cooler? Or would I be better pulling them up and putting in something else? Thanks. Lottie
Which variety is it Lottie? All the varieties I've grown are pretty frost proof...
Erm, not sure .. ::) :-\ My permanent pen didn't turn out to be permanent.....lasted about 5 days!! It was described as the one that makes one big head, and after harvesting that, you get lovely little side shoots. How long will it keep going? Do peeps keep them year in year out? Thanks.
Blimey, Wardy, I never knew that, shouldn't have ordered more.... ::) Have seen nice flowers though, when been late in cutting! Thanks
Are we talking calabrese here?
That's a distinct possibility, TM...... :-\ actually, yes, think it is. And could you please explain the difference!!! Thanks Lottie
No worries. Calabrese is what they call Broccoli in the supermarket. Usually one big flower head and maybe some little side shoots. Doesn't like frost.
(Purple sprouting) broccoli is a mass of smaller but - in my opinion - tastier shoots. Hard as nails it is...frost-wise.
Thank you! I've also got purple sprouting on the go, but it's been annihilated by pigeons :(, and haven't had a chance to net it. Hopefully it'll spring back to life. Should get there tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I got slugs - I dealt with them, I got caterpillars - I dealt with them. Everything was looking Rosy. Then I went up yesterday - hundreds of baby snails all over all of my brassicas and leaves like lace curtains. If it's not one thing...
Hi Lottie
I'm growing Calabrese Hydra F1 from Dolbies and I expect to harvest from October to November, I guess calabrese are frost hardy.
