A choice between 0°C in the fridge or wrapped & in the barn.

The NHS five-a-day site advises storing at 'not below 1.5 C'.

Read elsewhere lately that French apples on sale in supermarkets in winter are likely to have been kept in cold storage for up to a year.

I'd go for the barn...

Wish I had a barn to store mine in!  In the shed they will be eaten my our fury little friends, and the garage is packed to the rafters! Really should try.

My mother used to wrap each apple individually in newspaper and store them on top of a wardrobe in the spare bedroom. No central heating in those days. I can still remember the beautiful apple smell when you opened the door ( and yes I did sneak in a pinch one or two).

I only suggested 0C because I thought that most produce - bar leafy things - was held at that temp these days?
