Cor it is blowing in tonight! The rain is lashing down and the wind is making the windows creak! At least it is watering in the plants I moved on Monday! I call this Devon weather because whenever we go home, this is the sort of weather we enjoy! Drive into the mist past Stoneyhenge, have a few wet and windy North Devon days, and then drive back out into the sunshine this side of stoneyhenge!
Has been glorious over the last few days here. It was fairly reasonable weather this morning when I was at the lottie, but this afternoon we had heavy rain and very galey weather too, so I am glad I managed to squeeze a bit of work in. Always feel a bit melancholy at this time of year, when the weather becomes more uncertain and the nights are drawing in.
My sister lived in a tiny village called Black Dog near Crediton a few years ago, and when we visited her, I was always surprised how much rain they seemed to have there. busy_lizzie
We had a glorious morning yesterday (today too). I was out in the garden picking the remains of my tomatoes and digging up the blighty plants :'( (And Monty said there wasn't much blight around this year. Pah). It was 8am and dispite my fluffy fleece, I had to pop indoors for more clothes and a hat! Couldn't find any gardening gloves, despite having about five pairs somewhere in the shed.
Dug up another potato plant - another 5lbs of Picassos.
By evening, it was chucking it down, but fortunately by that time I was tucked indoors preparing dinner. And when I went to bed, it seemed like the rain couldn't possibly get any heavier, but then it did. The wind was lashing it against the window. I was tempted to have a peak outside, but I was lovely and warm under the duvet.
I'm really enjoying the cold and autumnal feel in the air. But by November I'll be thoroughly fed up of it.
I love the changing of the seasons - lovely crisp morning yesterday, torrential rain by evening I was nice and toasty inside so didn,t care too much either!!!!!!!!!
Looks like similar today - happy days!!!!!!!!!
i am an autumn child :)
give me crisp cold sunny days and chilly foggy nights, and rustling leaves under foot, any day :D
I think that it has been a lovely September weather wise, some fantastic sunny days that make you glad to be........ It did absolutely chuck it down last night, but again lovely & sunny today tho' a bit chillier than recently.
Looks like it's going to bucket down again tonight. Just hope it waits til I'm snuggly at home!
46F in the greenhouse last night. Not much pollination going on?
Ahhh, don't get me wrong, I adore the changing of the seasons, and autumn is quite special. Â You can smell the air, the damp leaves, and I just love to watch the colours changing in the trees and the berries fattening up! Â Yesterday afternoon, before school kicked out, I went for a walk around the playing field adjoining the school fields. Â The fields are surrounded by huge oak trees and it was magical scrunching through the fallen dry acorns and looking up into the monster trees and spotting squirrels.
Tomorrow I will spend the whole day on the allotment, so am hoping for fine weather. Â Must take my camera as I do think this is a magical time for photos....those dew dusted cobwebs and other diamonte beauties!
Not me, Emma!
And used to just love sitting on the (our own!) pebble beach just north of Bude with the storms lashing in & bringing up the flotsam. Incredible the stuff we gathered in. For a start, fishermens' balls in 4 colours! Wouldn't like to see the sort of stuff that comes in now though!
And for those who are sitting cushy-cushy at the moment, are you prepared??
Batteries, candles..........??
PS - we miss the 100 year old Bramley, but the Norway Maple that filled its place a few years ago (in the blog!) does remind one of the seasons?

Same thoughts as you EJ - took my eldest to the stables tonight, they are in centre of a country park full of oaks and other such huge trees. Squirrels everywhere, conkers beginning to fall the dog had a wonderful time running through leaves.
Also bought couple of punnets of raspberries from the walled gardens (i ve only got summer fruiting, i must remember to buy Autumn Bliss some time)
Yes I agree there are aspects of autumn I like very much. Feeling cold again and feeling nice and snug under a duvet. Having our coal fire on in the dining room and sitting around it watching the flames. I love the colours too and the crispy leaves. I like Halloween and Guy Fawkes night too. I think I just miss going to the allotment so much and I miss the sunshine. Think we discussed last year that special bulb you can get and I always mean to buy one to see if it makes a difference. :) busy_lizzie
I can't wait until the oak two gardens down (which looks magnificent from our garden) starts to turn. I love oaks.
Off to Epping Forest on Sunday for a guided mushroom hunt so will take my camera along. I adore autumn colours.
Absolutly blowing a gale here again and bucketing it down. :(
Have herd that tuesday, wednesday & thursday of next week is suposed to be great though. Blue skies and autumn temps.
rain, rain & more rain. makes me feel quite glum when it's like this - although i love crisp, clear chilly autumn days - roll on bonfire night - fave night of the year - my 'wooooos' and 'aaaahhhhhs' are always the loudest, makes me feel like a kid again ;D :o :o :o :o ;D
Wardy - took sprogs to Clumber Park during the summer think I can picture where you mean - is it the long drive through arch-way, I can only imagine what a picture it looks during autumn!!!
Had a wonderful day there cycling - also no mobile phone signal which meant a wonderfully peaceful day - i,m starting to ramble and reminisce now about the long summer days (notice how I conveniently forget the rainy days!!!!!!)
Thanks for that Wardy will watch out for taste sessions - we are back there again end of Oct for Halloween Tour with the sprogs.
but back to the weather, we are having the most gorgeous days - cobwebs were glistening in garden this morning they look fab!!!!!
More colour for Emma.

Did you check for spiders, before I dive in, hang on, dropped crash helmet...am running..and wheeeeeeeeeee!! Thanks Redclanger........ ;D ;D ;D
Apart from the little incident of finding my plot's back fence burnt down by vandals today, it has been a glorious day, weatherwise. Â We have had beautiful blue skies, not a cloud amongst it and hot weather. Â Just worked in my t shirt and was even tempted to put some sun block on. Can't imagine any more days like today this year. Â :) busy_lizzie
Sorry to hear about the fence BL :( We spent most of today putting a fence up on our friends plot as they had their shed broken into last night and their tools stolen. They did get their fork back... the kids (we know who they are) had used it to break into the next door shed and steal their bike. >:(
Back on topic...
I like the anticipation of autumn, seeing the ground becoming ready for planting in spring.
Glad to see you are keeping your chin up BL - you re not having alot of luck at the moment are you, first the pumpkins now your fence :D :D
Blimey BL, never rains it pours! Lovely colours Tim. The kids have started collecting colourful leaves, conkers and acorns galour, and now the cotoneaster and pyracanthas are full of berries and looking sexy! Gorgeous balmy weekend in our part of Essex. Chums came for Sunday lunch today, we were going to go out for a long country walk, but they were sure it was going to rain today...not a cloud in the sky all day!!
Lovely balmy afternoon on the plot so got a bit of clearing up done. My seedlings are looking promising so gave them a feed. Started dismantling the bean rigs which is a bit sad I always think. I didn't leave the plot til after 5.00 and it was still lovely and warm.
Back to reality this morning - all housework and no lottying. Lotty programme on this week folks so don't forget :)
I sadly dismantled my squash/pumpkins frames yesterday and put all the vegetation on the compost heap. Had a small pumpkin and a tiny but perfectly formed one left. Gave the small one to my daughter who came for a visit to our plot and on the way home saw a little girl with her parents pushing a teddy bear in a toy pushchair, so gave her the tiny one for her teddy. You should have seen the expression on her face, it was a picture of delight.Â
The area where my squash/pumkins were looks huge now that it is bare. Looks like another nice day outside, have to pop over to see whether I have anything left on my plot and block the big gaping hole I have. Thanks for the sympathy all and have a nice day everyone.  :) busy_lizzie
The plot is looking a bit bare after all the pumpkin and courgette foliage gone :(
I said hello to a new plotty and his wife yesterday in passing them to get to my plot. he spoke but she never turned round. She must have heard me as she was standing right next to her husband. Funny bugger!
Oh I've got those on our site Wardy. I no longer bother trying.
Finally the heavy wet mist is starting to lift....to late for me to get the washing out though. GGRRR
I expect every lotty has one ;D
Gots mountains of laundry this a.m. as lots of guests in this weekend but tumble drier and two clothes horses on the go as too damp and horrid outside to get anything dry. heating on as well so just as well OH is not in or he'd be tut tutting :)
Can't get to me plot worse luck but had a phone call just now from someone there to tell me what I'm missing :( Oh well can settle down when I've done all me chores and watch the lotty this this afto. Happy days :)
