Post by: joji on September 27, 2005, 18:21:20
Can these be used as weed supressors or are they too light in colour ? :)

They can be used but they don't let water through in the same way as membrane so you could end up with rock hard soil underneath.  having said that I've had one on my plot for 15 months as I couldn't afford all membrane but I've just bought a massive piece so I can replace the tarp  :)

Thanks wardy we were wondering as we have been given a brand new 40ft by 40ft one for free ;D which will cover 1/4 of the plot any way. The plot is on a slight slope so water runs down hill till we sort everything out, so will put it down at the bottom some where. :)

You have to use what you can get your hands on.  I use cardboard a lot too  :)

I have used blue tarp too, worked well for me over the winter, luckily it has a green side too, so I put it blue side down!  I found it did the weed supressing trick, maybe they died due to lack of water ;D

If it isn't windy and wet tomorrow ( It usually is in south Wales lol ) We will put it down. If not it will have to wait. :(
